The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) seeks to appoint an inclusive and engaging executive to the position of Executive Director Aboriginal Health. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director Aboriginal Health will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic advice on Aboriginal health issues across the NALHN. Additionally, the position is responsible for ensuring clinical services within NALHN receive the advice, support and direction they need in order to deliver effective and culturally acceptable services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
As a member of the Executive Team, the Executive Director Aboriginal Health will provide, advice, education and leadership across the LHN on matters impacting Aboriginal outcomes and about the provision of health services to Aboriginal people. The Executive Director, Aboriginal Health is also clinically and operationally responsible for four Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Health and services and a residential service across both the CALHN and NALHN catchments, including service development and design, planning, performance, clinical and operational governance structures and accountability. Responsibility for ensuring appropriate models of community consultation are developed and internal/external relationships are enhanced to further improve health outcomes for the community will be key to success in the position.
The appointee will demonstrate sound strategic leadership experience in the public, community or private sectors, with a particular focus on improving quality of life of the indigenous community. An inclusive and engaging style in relation to Aboriginal people and issues will be essential, along with an ability to maintain culture integrity at a systemic and personal level. The incoming Director will bring an extensive understanding of contemporary health care issues as they relate to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and an understanding of the need to provide a culturally safe health service and working environment. Demonstrating highly effective strategic planning and policy development capability, and experience in providing leadership in complex multi-disciplinary settings, the appointee will bring proven experience in the management of major change programs.
Success in the position will be predicated on knowledge of, and extensive relationships with, Aboriginal people and communities within South Australia in addition to a sound knowledge of public health operations.
