Head of Private Equity and M&A Services, Pacific

Marsh, a global leader in insurance broking and risk management, have an exciting role available for a suitably qualified senior executive to bring their background, expertise and insights to lead the Private Equity and M&A (PEMA) Services team in the Pacific region. Our new Head of PEMA will continue to build on the foundation of this practice to further grow and develop PEMA in the Pacific. Head of Private Equity and M&A Services, Pacific
Marsh’s PEMA practice is a dedicated global team focused on providing insurance, risk management, due diligence, and post-acquisition services to private equity firms, alternative investment firms, infrastructure funds, strategic investors, other financial sponsors, and their related investments.

What can you expect?
The successful candidate will lead our high performing PEMA team, reporting directly to the Marsh Pacific Regional Specialty Leader and the Global Head of PEMA. In this role you will set PEMA’s strategic vision in the region, lead a high performing team, and be responsible for maintaining Marsh’s role as the leading M&A risk advisor and insurance broker in the Pacific region. The successful candidate will be a member of the Pacific Specialty Executive Committee as well as the Global PEMA leadership team. The role requires a senior executive with strong, visible and reputable leadership in the marketplace with the ability to continue to grow this business, along with commercial acumen, knowledge and experience in the Private Equity & Mergers & Acquisitions space, preferably in the Pacific region, a deep understanding of the sector, and outstanding stakeholder & team management capabilities.

We will count on you to:
  • Set the strategic vision and ambition for the PEMA practice within the Pacific that aligns and builds on Marsh and PEMA’s global vision in conjunction with the Pacific Specialty Leader and Global Head PEMA.
  • Draft PEMA Pacific’s annual and three-year strategic plan including identifying the addressable market, analysing new business opportunities, and detailing how we will achieve growth
  • Deliver financial results to the firm, including achieving yearly growth targets and maintaining PEMA’s strong operating margin.
  • Hire, train, develop mentor and support PEMA team members, including developing a pipeline of internal and external candidates.
  • Ensure client expectations are met, with a high degree of service excellence, responsiveness, and quality.
  • Serve as a trusted ambassador to the PEMA and Marsh brands internally and externally.
  • Maintain and build strong relationships within the M&A community, including financial investors (private equity, infrastructure investors, and other deal professionals), Marsh corporate clients, lawyers, accountants, investment bankers, and other advisors.
  • Develop and align our service offerings to cater to clients in each Marsh segment.

Strategy and Business Development
  • Ensure coordination of PEMA resources, working with regional Transactional Risk, Transaction Advisory and Client Management leaders to develop and execute full range of PEMA strategies.
  • Create opportunities for new business from external and internal client referrals
  • Be the thought leader and ambassador for Marsh, evidenced by representing the practice and the organization at industry conferences, seminars, and events. Publish articles and thought leadership pieces to enhance the practice's reputation and visibility.
  • Remain updated on market trends, industry developments, and competitive landscape.

Team Leadership
  • Hire, train, develop, mentor and support PEMA team members to deliver client results and achieve PEMA’s strategic goals
  • Develop succession plans for PEMA Pacific leadership, create career progression for key talent and build a pipeline of future talent, drawing from internal and external talent pools.
  • Lead PEMA in a manner that promotes inclusion and the development of diverse teams.
  • Provide guidance, direction and coaching to ensure the team's success.
  • Prepare quarterly updates for the global and Pacific leadership teams

Client Relationship Management
  • Maintain and build strong relationships within the M&A community, including financial investors (private equity, infrastructure investors, and other deal professionals), Marsh corporate clients, lawyers, accountants, investment bankers, and other advisors.
  • Develop and align our service offerings to cater to clients in each Marsh segment, including differentiated value propositions for Risk Management, Corporate, Commercial, and Public Sector
  • Maintain strong relationships with key client accounts in each segment and ensure the execution of high-quality service to those clients.
  • Provide M&A market insights and recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Maximize all yield opportunities in PEMA within the Pacific region.
  • Work in collaboration with the Segment and other Specialty Leaders to support their growth objectives.
  • Consistently drive all new and expanded opportunities across Specialties.
  • Foster a culture of cross sell & collaboration across Specialties, Marsh, Mercer, Oliver Wyman, and Guy Carpenter.
  • Increase overall client retention and be involved in our key large accounts.

Operational Excellence
  • Ensure team compliance with Client First Principles and relevant professional duties.

What you need to have:
  • Significant experience in a senior leadership role, at the Executive level, within consulting or risk advisory with either legal, M&A or insurance industry experience in a top tier or international law firm and exposure to private equity and mergers & acquisition activity in the Pacific region.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure delivery of financial targets and business goals.
  • Track record of selling and delivering on complicated and challenging projects, involving a range of stakeholders, potentially with competing objectives.
  • Ability to be a credible voice with senior clients and well versed in the latest market, products and service innovations and trends for both the PEMA business and the Pacific market.
  • Strong technical ability, with an appreciation of the challenges clients face and how solutions and client engagement need to evolve in the merger & acquisition space.
  • Strong connections to senior private equity and related decision makers within region. Established relationships with the regions legal, financial and private equity community.
  • Visibility with business community leadership, networking groups, and centres of influence.
  • Proven strategic planning skills, business, and commercial acumen to drive performance and growth for the organization.
  • Significant people leadership experience (direct and indirect capacity). Demonstrated coaching, motivational, training, mentorship, and management skills.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills with an ability to consistently driving for results.
  • Ability to influence and persuade diplomatically with colleagues across Marsh Specialty as well as other segments and across business units.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline; Finance, Law or Commerce or related field.
  • Ability to work in a high paced dynamic work environment.
