Technical Director, Fire Engineering

The Position
The Technical Director for Fire Engineering at NDY is the subject matter expert in their field, providing thought leadership and driving technical excellence across the fire engineering Global Specialist Group.
The technical leader will be recognized as an industry expert and will be a key leader within the business in ensuring high performance and technical standards through engagement with all NDY stakeholders, including the fire engineering group, other discipline Technical Directors, office directors and the NDY’s legal team.
Key duties include overseeing the development of NDY fire engineering processes, systems, tools and intellectual property, including developing strategic plans, ensuring innovation and supporting the technical training and development of our staff.
The role also involves evaluating new technologies, managing R&D funding and activities, providing technical direction for projects, supporting all offices with QA support and technical expertise, promoting NDY’s capabilities to clients, participating in industry forums, and overseeing staff training and development.
The role can be based anywhere in Australia.
Who we’re looking for.
  • A relevant degree in Fire Engineering or a related field, supplemented by equivalent professional training and experience.
  • Experience in leading fire engineering teams and projects in Australia. Experience in UK and/or NZ is also desirable.
  • Formal certifications, such as Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) and NER.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of technical experience in fire engineering, including hands-on project leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage projects through all phases of the systems development lifecycle, from initial concept to final implementation.
  • In-depth understanding of company management systems, including Quality Assurance (QA), Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), and Environmental Management Systems (EMS).
  • Exceptional communication skills, with a proven ability to lead and collaborate with technical staff across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong initiative, critical judgment, and advanced problem-solving skills to navigate complex technical challenges.
  • Proven track record in providing technical training and mentorship to engineering staff, fostering professional growth and technical excellence.
  • Experience with digital engineering technologies and design automation is an advantage.
  • Ability to engage with clients and industry stakeholders, enhancing NDY’s reputation as a leader in fire engineering.
Training and Development
NDY has a strong focus on the development of our staff and training will be a key element of this development whether on internal or external training courses. We will develop a career plan for each staff member that will focus on core elements of your role to provide you with a clear progression in your career path.
Additionally, the successful candidate will be involved in a wide range of projects from healthcare facilities through to commercial office developments and retail developments, both as new build and refurbishments.
