We are currently seeking a Technical Specialist to join the Information and Technology Branch at The Department of Treasury & Finance.
The role is for an initial 12-month term contract duration, with the possibility of extension.
Remuneration: ASO6 – Salary Range ($98,478 – $104,165 p.a.).

The Department of Treasury and Finance is looking to transform and modernise their operations and way of working, using digital as one of its levers. The department has commenced the establishment of an internal Centre of Excellence (Co E) for its digital services, transforming the existing Information and Technology branch into a high-quality enabler for its broad business.
The Information and Technology Branch provides all technology related services to the Department. The Branch supports a range of business applications, as well as providing infrastructure and operational support.
This is an exciting time for the Branch, as a large program of work is underway to deliver the initiatives of the Centre of Excellence. This role will play a significant role in delivering these initiatives.
The Digital Architecture and Infrastructure team provides technical support to the Department’s network, server and cloud-based infrastructure, remote access services, and acts as a technical escalation point for other teams in the Branch.
The Technical Specialist role supports the Digital Architecture and Infrastructure team in the delivery of this support as well as providing technical advice, support and expertise in the planning and execution of projects and programs of work across the Department.
About you
This role is suited to someone who can think laterally, work as part of a high performing team, demonstrates a “can-do” attitude and showcases excellent communication skills.
As a Technical Specialist, you will be required to mentor and support other team members with complex technical issues, possess strong problem-solving skills and collaborates effortlessly.
Providing technical advice and expertise to support projects and experience in working under tight deadlines is advantageous.
To be successful you will possess:
- Proven high level communication skills, including the provision of expert advice on ICT issues of a complex nature and to support and mentor members across the I&T team.
- Proven ability to work under broad direction to meet deadlines and prioritise workloads.
- Demonstrated ability to identify complex technical issues, think laterally and apply analytical skills to develop appropriate options for resolution.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting complex ICT projects and/or activities that impact organisational objectives.
- Experience in acting as an escalation point for operational issues, monitor operational workloads and provide mentoring to other technical staff.
- Experience in the establishment, review and continuous improvement of ICT policies, processes and other operational documentation.
- Experience in the provision of specialist technical advice, technical documentation and support within an information technology environment including server configuration, network configuration, end user device management, remote access technologies, SQL support and public cloud services such as Azure and AWS.
- Significant knowledge of ICT related government legislation, policies, procedures and systems.
- Knowledge of current ICT service delivery frameworks, such as ITIL, and their application in a complex ICT environment.
