Key Responsibilities:

Location: Based in Lindsay, Ontario
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and oversee daily operations of the asphalt, aggregate, soils, and concrete labs.
- Ensure compliance with Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) standards and guidelines across all lab sectors.
- Perform and supervise quality control and assurance testing on asphalt, aggregate, soil, and concrete samples.
- Train, mentor, and manage laboratory staff, including lab technicians and junior personnel.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure proper calibration and maintenance schedules are followed.
- Ensure a clean and organized working environment in all labs.
- Prepare and review test reports for accuracy and compliance with project specifications and appropriate standards.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and project managers to ensure test results are delivered on time.
- Implement and monitor safety protocols and ensure lab operations comply with health and safety regulations.
- Develop and improve laboratory procedures to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and quality control.
- Manage the laboratory’s inventory of materials and supplies, ensuring availability for ongoing projects.
- Contribute to future laboratory development, including expansion of testing capabilities and upgrades to equipment and technology, including travelling to other regions in support of certification.
- Oversee concrete lab operations, ensuring proper handling and testing of concrete specimens according to relevant standards, ensuring compliance with regional governing bodies.
- Take responsibility for annual CCIL audits, ensuring all documentation, processes, and equipment meet certification requirements.
- Keep up with any changes to testing methods and procedures and update the laboratory manuals and procedures when necessary.
- Handle administrative tasks, such as scheduling, reporting, and record-keeping.
- Assist in writing and maintaining the lab's quality manual and developing a robust quality system in line with CCIL and other relevant standards. • Support medium-complexity projects, ensuring compliance with MTO RAQS (Ministry of Transportation Ontario’s Registry, Appraisal, and Qualification System) requirements.
- Ensure eligibility to act as the lab supervisor for the asphalt, aggregate, soils, and concrete labs by meeting the CCIL-mandated requirement for years of experience and certification.
- Contribute to business development initiatives for the laboratories, including identifying new services, expanding client relationships, and improving market presence.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a laboratory setting, with a focus on asphalt, aggregate, soil, and concrete testing.
- Must have the appropriate number of years of experience as mandated by CCIL to be eligible to act as the lab supervisor.
- Familiarity with CCIL certification standards for asphalt, aggregate, soils, and concrete testing.
- Strong understanding of ASTM, AASHTO, and CSA testing standards and procedures for asphalt, aggregate, soils and concrete testing.
- Previous supervisory experience in a lab environment preferred.
- Proficiency with laboratory equipment and software used in soil, aggregate, asphalt, and concrete testing.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Certification Requirements:
- CCIL Certification in Asphalt, Aggregate, Soils, and Concrete Testing, or otherwise eligible.
