Research Assistant, Financial Services, Infrastructure & Alternative Assets - Credit Estimates

Toronto

September 2, 2024

About the Role:
Grade Level (for internal use): 08

The Team:
The Credit Estimates team is a close-knit team of analysts predominantly based out of Toronto and New York but also with analysts in Latin America, Europe and Asia. The team works together to serve the critical middle market CLO constituency and other smaller leveraged loan issuers. Our global team has a fast-paced work flow and we need to communicate seamlessly and collegially across groups. The interactions are largely internal, though there are several opportunities to speak with CLO Managers explaining our CE rationale and our methodology Our team serves as one of the best training grounds for learning credit analysis and how S&P performs its analytical function

The Impact:
The analyses you produce will be used by other S&P teams to rate Collateralized Loan Obligations, and by our clients to evaluate the credit quality of their overall loan portfolios.

CLO Investors and Managers value our evaluation of middle market companies. We partner extensively with our Structured Finance team as our credit opinions play an important role in the credit quality of the CLOs we rate.

As a Credit Estimate Research Assistant you will analyze companies across a variety of sectors and you will learn the most important determinants of credit quality for small and medium sized companies.

What’s in it for you:
Our most successful Credit Estimate Research Assistants could be provided with the opportunity to move up within our team or into the other analytical teams that focus specifically on individual sectors.

Opportunities to work with a global team and hands on high impact credit experience

Responsibilities:
Analyze company financials and prepare daily company evaluations for review by senior analysts.

Assist with detailed financial analysis for use in reports and related materials for S&P Global Ratings publications.

Work within a global team of analysts to analyze pertinent financial, operational and industry data to determine Credit Estimates.

As a Credit Estimates Research Assistant you will initially spend most of your time learning the methodology by which S&P performs credit analysis and getting familiar with our analytical tools and processes. You will focus on analyzing a number of diverse companies and learn how to evaluate credit quality as efficiently as possible.

As you gain experience, you may deal with investors directly and work on research projects.

Over time, strong performers could be provided with the opportunity to move into one of the Canadian or US corporate teams as a primary analyst covering their own list of credits.
