Description
The Department of Cell Biology & Anatomy in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Associate. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 3 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The desired candidate will have expertise in any quantitative field and use numerical scientific programming as part of his research. The research will focus on spiking neural networks, and applications of spiking neural networks. This includes and may not be limited to learning algorithms, emergent dynamics, computing.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Responsible for presentations in producing figures for publication
- Produce initial drafts of manuscripts for publication and appropriate scientific journals
- Under limited supervision and direction, develop and implement original experiments within the guidelines of the research
- Conduct literature review, surveys, data analysis and interpretation, laboratory experiments and other research for use in scholarly publications
- Keep laboratory and work area clean and safe
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, immediate supervisor and senior management and with the campus community
- Manages own time effectively and ensures immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities, and progress of work
- Demonstrated strong communication, team and customer service skills, and an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
- Extensive understanding, continued learning and development of safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
- Minimum 5 years of technical experience
- Completion of post-secondary education in related discipline
- Ability to perform numerical scientific programming in MATLAB, Python, or any other coding language
- Knowledge of neuroscience or computational neuroscience is preferable, but not required
