About the position:
The researcher will participate in research activities of the project “Ready for the future: understanding long-term resilience of the human culture”, reg. no. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004593” in Programme Johannes Amos Comenius (Czech Republic - The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, co-funded by the European Union), which is focused on understanding basic principles of the resilience of human society in a historical perspective using long time series and on the transfer of the acquired knowledge into everyday social life. This objective will be achieved by promoting excellent research and developing collaboration between the humanities and natural sciences, such as archaeology, art history, anthropology, genetics, geology, climatology, botany, geophysics, and nuclear physics. The program aims to support the increase of the number of excellent R&D results in the Czech Republic and the development and support of excellent research teams with cutting-edge equipment in all aspects.
The candidate is expected to get involved in laboratory tasks, including work with primary samples from modern, historical, and ancient materials (archaeological expertise is an advantage here). The applicant should be familiar with sequencing technologies, their application in human research, and advanced sequencing data analyses to participate in a holistic and interdisciplinary concept of research on human society and its resilience in the past. The applicant will be involved in setting up and organizing a new archaeogenetics laboratory at the new premises of CEITEC MU, which is one of the objectives of Research work package no. 2 (Centre for interdisciplinary integrative biomolecular research).
The researcher will be employed at CEITEC MU and will closely collaborate with a research team from the Faculty of Arts, Department of Archaeology and Museology.
You have (necessary competencies):
The successful candidate should:
- be a graduate with at least an MSc degree or its equivalent in molecular biology and genetics, genomics, archaeogenetics, biomedical sciences or similar.
- be experienced in the field of population genetics and archaeogenetics,
- have experience with ancient DNA or ancient biomolecules,
- be familiar with current sequencing technologies,
- be experienced with sequencing library preparation and setting up sequencing experiments
- demonstrate a capacity for adopting new methods & methodologies, and cross-disciplinary thinking,
- have strong management skills,
- have excellent communication skills and be able to collaborate with multiple teams,
- be able to work independently but also interact with the research team.
