The research team

The research team you will be working with includes collaborators at the National Centre for Register-based Research, Aarhus University, as well as many national and international partners. The team conducts register-based and genetic epidemiologic studies of psychiatric and neurodevelopmental conditions. We are seeking new colleagues to help collate, manage, and analyze data from the Danish registers within the scope of defined and time-limited tasks. If you have a master’s degree or a Ph D in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or similar and a fondness for data, you may be one of the colleagues we are looking for.
Your job responsibilities

You will be curating data sets and preparing data for analyses of large health-related registry and genomics data sets on both the Genome DK supercomputer and Statistics Denmark computing cluster. Further, you will assist researchers by running analyses under their guidance using the prepared data sets.

Specifically, you will work on one of two NIH funded projects: “Maternal Health” studying the relationship between disease in mothers and the risk of autism in their children, and “ARCH”, Autism Risk and Maternal Cardiometabolic Health, that looks deeper into the relationship between cardiometabolic disorders in mothers and autism in their offspring. Your tasks will be to conduct the required data management and statistical analyses.

You will report to Professor Jakob Grove, Department of Biomedicine.
Your competences

You have a master’s degree or a Ph D in bioinformatics, computer science, statistics or similar and a fondness for data.

You’ll be a successful candidate if you have most, if not all, of the following competencies:
  • Experienced in programming bash, SAS, R and/or python
  • Experience with management and curation of large data sets
  • Experience with high performance computing
  • Experience doing statistical analyses of large data sets, including analyses of large pedigrees and other family designs
  • Experience analyzing genetic data such as SNP array data and polygenic scores
  • Experience with Danish registry-based research
  • Experience producing publication-quality results, figures, and tables
  • Knowledge of data security and Danish and EU regulations concerning privacy

As a person, you have good interpersonal and communication skills. You are inclusive, team-oriented and collaborative and contribute to a good work environment.

Moreover, we expect you to be able to work independently, including having strong trouble-shooting skills and adherence to timelines. You keep good records of your work (e.g. maintain well-annotated program files) consistent with strong open science practices.

You learn and apply new analytic skills and share your knowledge with your colleagues.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English.
