Our Team
AME's Finance Local Compliance team forms part of Guardian Industries overall controlling capability with a specific focus to provide local compliance services for multiple Guardian group entities across Africa & Middle East. The scope of work is performed through a combination of performing the work directly, collaboratively working with other Guardian finance capabilities, or overseeing outsource partners to deliver, although a significant part of this role will be to continually transform the operating model for AME local compliance work to find the most efficient and effective way to perform the work and your role.
What You Will Do
- Plan, assign, and review the work of outsourced accounting partners (Mazars).
- Timely submission of statistical and governmental reports.
- Timely filling of tax (VAT, WHT, CIT, Stamp duty, Payroll tax) declarations and other returns in various jurisdictions.
- Timely preparation of error-free accounting reports & analyses for statutory audit or tax inspection, in accordance with local GAAP in various jurisdictions including Egypt, UAE, Bahrain & Saudi Arabia.
- Cooperation with external statutory auditors during the audit & with tax inspectors for tax assessment. Investigating and resolving audit findings, account discrepancies, and issues of noncompliance.
- Preparation of current and deferred income tax calculation & tax accounting for general ledger purposes.
- Verify and reconcile local GAAP general ledger accounts. Analyse financial information and summarize financial status for local requirements.
- Review month-end local reports and support during year-end local book close.
- Build relationships across the wider business, other capabilities & outsource partners. Collaborate closely with all members of finance sub-capabilities to ensure information, reporting and procedures remain entirely clear & consistent.
- Enhance knowledge on accounting matters and interpret local accounting rules & IFRS (US GAAP - optional) to identify differences and properly issue accounting guidelines.
- Experience in tax returns including government interactions (contacting tax authorities) & tax consultants (EY's, Pw C's GT's) in at least one of the following jurisdictions: Egypt, UAE, Bahrain & Saudi Arabia.
- General knowledge of current and deferred income tax - how to calculate and prepare various returns.
- Previous direct involvement in process of annual financial statement, group reporting packages preparation and statutory audits
- In-depth understanding & ability to interpret local accounting rules & knowledge of IFRS or US GAAP to identify differences and properly issue accounting guidelines.
- Strong written and oral communication skills. Being able to manage many areas and people for data and needs, plus being able to give high-level visibility of where things are to the leadership team
- Ability to work within tight deadlines and attention to details.
- Aptitude for numbers, solid analytical and planning skills.
- Is willing to travel in the Africa, Middle East region, but also elsewhere as we try to get some connections and better best practices from other regions.
- Proven experience as an Accounting Supervisor, chief or senior accountant, potentially 8-10 years or above in the accounting field, statutory audit, and tax laws.
- Accounting/finance educational background. Bachelor's degree in accounting or Finance.
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process. Hands-on experience with accounting software & tax portal.
- Experience with computerized ledger systems & Advanced knowledge of MS Excel skills.
- Fluency in English.
- Ability to work with little to no supervision
- Highly developed organization and communication skills.
- Solid accounting background and experience with GAAPs in various countries.
- Ability to work on various accounting sub-systems.
- Open-minded attitude and willingness to take on new challenges.
