Entry Requirements:
Candidate should have:
(a) a first or second class honours bachelor’s degree, from a university in Hong Kong, or equivalent;
(b) proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese, Level 2 or above in English Language and Chinese Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination or in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent [See Note 1] ;
(c) good interpersonal and presentation skills;
(d) strong interest in and/or track record of socio-economic research;
(e) strong interest in public affairs and policy; and
(f) good knowledge in computer applications and proficiency in Putonghua will be an advantage.

Note:
(1) For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.

(2) Candidates expecting to obtain the required academic qualifications within the current academic year (i.e. 2024/25) may apply. Consideration for appointment will be subject to their successfully obtaining the required academic qualifications.

Duties:
(a) To assist in conducting research projects through literature review, data collection, and coordinating relevant activities, including liaison with research organisations;
(b) To assist in writing up reports;
(c) To provide technical and logistic support for research projects; and
(d) To provide secretariat support for various committees, working groups and panels.

Terms of Appointment:
The successful candidate will be appointed on non-civil service contract terms for 12 months. The appointee may be required to work overtime and irregular hours, on shift and on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays and perform outdoor duties.

Fringe Benefits
In addition to general holidays, maternity/paternity leave and sickness allowance, 14 days’ paid annual leave will be granted under a continuous contract of employment for every 12 months. An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted if the contract is satisfactorily completed with consistently high standard of performance and conduct. This gratuity, if granted, plus the Government’s contributions to the Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 15% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period.

General Notes:
(a) Candidates must be permanent residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region at the time of appointment unless specified otherwise.

(f) It is Government policy to place people with a disability in appropriate jobs wherever possible. If a disabled candidate meets the entry requirements, he/she will be invited to attend the selection interview/written examination without being subject to further shortlisting criteria. Applicants who have declared disabilities found suitable for appointment may be given an appropriate degree of preference over other applicants whose suitability for appointment is considered comparable to that of the former. (g) Holders of academic qualifications other than those obtained from Hong Kong institutions/Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority may also apply but their qualifications will be subject to assessments on equivalence with the required entry qualifications. (h) For general awareness, a locally-accredited Hong Kong bachelor’s degree is at Level 5 under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF). While there are other qualifications under HKQF Level 5, for the purpose of this recruitment exercise, only bachelor’s degree is acceptable.
