In line with the HKSAR Government’s strategic direction of establishing a third medical school in Hong Kong and developing the city into an international health and medical innovation hub, HKUST is committed to contributing to this exciting initiative by leveraging its strengths in biomedical sciences and advanced technologies. Preparatory work has begun to explore the most suitable approach for establishing a new medical school that meets the manpower and technological needs of the public health sector, focusing on the training of future-ready physicians, cross-disciplinary research, and advancement of technologies for future medicine.

The Executive Director (Strategic Initiatives) will play a key role in this project.

The post holder will be expected to:

• Assist the university in formulating and implementing relevant strategic plans and policies.
• Lead the project team to strategically identify and engage with internal and external stakeholders to ensure a smooth and timely process for project planning and implementation.
• Collaborate with academic and industrial partners/collaborators, both locally and internationally, to establish partnerships for academic programs and research collaborations.
• Oversee a team of project staff to provide comprehensive administrative support for the project, including serving on committees, monitoring project timelines and drafting proposals.
• Work with other departments and units within the university to leverage cross-disciplinary expertise to enrich the project and achieve synergies.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Strong academic background- postgraduate degree holder, or an undergraduate with 10 years or more relevant experience.
• Extensive experience in leading large-scale projects, with expertise in determining the critical path within target timelines.
• Effective leadership in managing teams to achieve target and meet deadlines.
• Knowledge of the healthcare system, public health policies and tertiary education in Hong Kong.
• Familiarity with the biomedical field and related industries is a plus.
• Outstanding communication and people skills for engaging both internal and external stakeholders.
• Excellent command of English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua).

(Duration: 2 years, renewable)

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. Housing benefits will also be provided where applicable. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
