Leisure and Cultural Services Department

General Clerk (Libraries)

Salary: $14,480 per month

Entry Requirements:

Candidates should –
(a) (i) have Level 2 or equivalent or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics, in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) [see Note (1)], or equivalent; or
(a) (ii) have Level 2 / Grade E or above in five subjects, including Chinese Language, English Language and Mathematics, in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) [see Note (2)], or equivalent; and
(b) be skillful in the operation of computer software (e.g. MS Word, Excel, etc), and familiar with Chinese and English word processing. Good Chinese and English typing skills will be an advantage.

(Notes:
(1) For non-civil service appointment purpose, “Attained” in Applied Learning subjects (subject to a maximum of two Applied Learning subjects), and Grade E in Other Language subjects in the HKDSEE are accepted as equivalent to Level 2 in the New Senior Secondary subjects in the HKDSEE.
(2) For non-civil service appointment purpose, ‘Grade E’ in Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the HKCEE before 2007 are accepted administratively as comparable to ‘Level 2’ in Chinese Language and English Language in the 2007 HKCEE and henceforth.)


Duties:
(1) To provide check-in and check-out services for library materials;
(2) To provide basic readers’ enquiry services;
(3) To assist in organising library extension activities; and
(4) To perform general clerical, accounting, shroff, procurement, store management, records keeping, rental of venues/facilities, reception/counter duties, answering telephone enquiries and other duties as assigned.


Terms of Appointment:
Successful candidate(s) will be (a) appointed on Non-civil Service Contract terms for a period of 1 year, and (b) required to work for an average of 44 hours per week, perform shift duties and work irregular hours, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.


Fringe Benefits:
Contract lasting for one year or more normally attracts gratuity. An end-of-contract gratuity may be granted to the appointee upon satisfactory completion of the contract with a consistently high standard of performance and conduct. Such gratuity, plus the Government's contribution to a Mandatory Provident Fund (MPF) scheme in respect of the appointee as required by the MPF Schemes Ordinance, will be equal to 10% of the total basic salary drawn during the contract period. Rest days, statutory holidays (or substituted holidays), annual leave, maternity/paternity leave, and sickness allowance, where appropriate, will be granted in line with the provisions of the Employment Ordinance.

Applicants will bear any consequences arising from not paying sufficient postage. Applicants who are selected for interview will normally receive an invitation within ten to twelve weeks from the closing date for application. This period may be longer in exceptional circumstances, e.g. when a large number of applications are received or when there are other complications. Those who are not invited for interview may assume that their applications are unsuccessful. Information on unsuccessful applicants will normally be destroyed 24 months after rejection of the applicants’ applications.

General Notes:
