Head of Laboratory Services

Key Responsibilities:
- Establish a team structure to support the University’s strategic and expansion goals, and maintain service continuity into the next decades.
- Support the University’s laboratory capital submissions and liaise with all stakeholders from project proposal to project delivery, and similarly facilitate all major and minor off- and on-campus refurbishment plans and their successful implementation.
- Ensure well-maintained central plants and equipment and formulate enhancements to ensure modernized systems for robust, uninterrupted operations with minimal disturbance to ongoing teaching and research activities.
- Establish and communicate scope for maintenance and quick-turnaround installation support for both centrally- and user- funded service requests.
- Identify opportunities to streamline operations to improve efficiency and compensate for ongoing manpower shortage and talent recruitment challenges.
- Monitor all project and repair and maintenance expenditures, ensure adherence to tendering and procurement protocols.
- Ensure accountability and traceability via detailed documentation throughout asset and project life cycle.
- Manage the team to deliver the specified outcomes safely, promptly, effectively and on budget.
- Keep up with latest lab development and design trends, share knowledge and instill client- focused and team-work mindset to all team members.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering, with post-degree work experience in higher education laboratories or other similar facilities.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in a managerial and leadership role in laboratory facilities maintenance, laboratory design, fitting-out or capital works; extensive experience in heading diverse teams from frontline skilled workers to professionals.
- Strong organizational, problem solving and strategic planning skills, as well as the ability to juggle multiple priorities and manage pressing deadlines.
- Track history of team building, effectively and constructively working with varied stakeholders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits including annual leave, medical and dental benefits will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract.
