JOB DESCRIPTION
Discovery College is looking for a Laboratory Technician III to provide a safe environment for students to learn and for teachers to teach Science through experimental work
Job Summary
This role manages the Science laboratory and assists teachers in the preparation and set up of practical lessons in Science subjects and manages other lab technicians within the school.
The Science lab technician aims to provide a safe environment for students to learn and for teachers to teach Science through experimental work.
They ensure the provision of technical support to ensure the smooth functioning of equipment and materials. They are qualified in general lab management and aim to improve Science provision by continuously applying new skills and technologies.
Responsibilities
Periodically check the proper functioning of facilities (e.g. gas/electricity, apparatus, emergency showers, chemical ventilator)
Prepare chemicals & reagents (under supervision)
Support organization of teaching resources
Ensure lab and store rooms are organized and well-maintained
Learn about storage procedures to maintain and repair
Help to carry out inventory at least annually (under supervisory)
Maintain resource management systems
Handle disposed waste
Tidy rooms after lessons as an entry-level work
Regularly stock take chemicals and consumables regularly
Maintain Health & Safety standards in the laboratory:
Follow major health & safety rules in the laboratory
Understand Occupational Health & Safety requirements
In-class support:
Display work
Entry level: Preparation of handouts
Entry level: Clean glassware + replacement
Support students and staff in lessons
Prepare lesson order, and lab equipment for lessons (e.g. Chemistry / Biology / Physics)
Print/part of the provision of classroom resources
Prepare and photocopy material for lessons
Follow teacher instructions to set up equipment for lessons
Provide/organize/remove equipment for lessons
Learn how to set up demos
Learn how to prepare equipment for use in lessons
Learn how to obtain quotes and order
ICT/ Development of Skills Management:
Use data logging equipment; develop new practical work with experience
Coordinate:
Approach other technicians and teachers to solve problems
Work with classroom teachers to develop new practice
To perform other duties and assume accountabilities as apparent or as delegated, including mutually agreed-upon objectives
Reporting To: Technician I – Laboratory
Requirements
Have 5 subjects including Chinese Language, English Language and 2 science subjects (e.g. Physics, Chemistry and Biology) at Grade 3 or above in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE), or equivalent.
HKDSE Grade 5 in science subjects preferred
1 to 2 years relevant experience preferred
ICT Competent - MS Office/Word- Basic formatting
Gain some computer literacy / data processing skills
MS Office applications, including Word and Excel
Applicants must be a permanent Hong Kong resident or possess a valid visa to work in Hong Kong.
