Technical Officer (Laboratory Safety)

Laboratory Safety Unit (LSU) is a central university unit under the Office of Vice-President (Research) that oversees safety and regulatory compliance matters pertaining to teaching and research laboratory activities. LSU is seeking an enthusiastic and committed person to support senior members of the unit in carrying out their responsibilities in relation to the services, projects, and programs managed by LSU.
The appointee will take part in a variety of laboratory research safety and occupational hygiene programs and will have the opportunity to receive professional development to gain relevant professional experience and qualify for different safety professional recognitions.
Candidates with an interest in pursuing a career in laboratory safety and occupational hygiene are encouraged to apply, especially those familiar with research laboratory environments. Holding safety credentials such as ASP, CSP, or Cert IOSH is a definite plus.

Duties
- Implement safety management programs in laboratories under supervision (e.g., biosafety, chemical safety, radiation safety, laser safety, laboratory design, pre-occupation check, risk management, research safety, etc.);
- Conduct regular laboratory safety inspections and audits and prepare reports;
- Investigate laboratory-related incidents and accidents and prepare reports;
- Maintain the laboratory safety-related databases/systems/e-platforms;
- Liaise with the licensed contractor(s) for arranging certification and examination for lifting appliances & lifting gear, boiler, and air receiver;
- Conduct surveys and evaluate health hazards;
- Provide administrative (e.g., handling invoices and raising purchase requests) and technical support on various LSU activities; and
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree in Science/Engineering/Occupational Health and Safety or related disciplines with at least 2 years of relevant work experience. Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Adobe Premiere Pro, Power BI, HTML/CSS/Java Script, etc. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with good command of written and spoken English and Chinese and the ability to work under pressure are required.Candidates with an interest in pursuing a career in laboratory safety and occupational hygiene are encouraged to apply, especially those familiar with research laboratory environments. Salary and Conditions of Service
Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes.Information and Application
