We are looking for a self-motivated, enthusiastic research assistant to join our vibrant team of veterinary researchers investigating infectious diseases of animals. The appointee will work on projects related to the discovery, epidemiology and pathogenesis of known and novel infectious agents in a variety of animal species.

Project

Exotic Animal Disease Detection and Surveillance in Hong Kong: A One Health Focus

Duties

The appointee will play a critical role in executing this project. Responsibilities include:

Benchtop laboratory: Perform DNA/RNA extraction, c PCR/q PCR, serological testing;

Data analysis: Assist in data sequencing, phylogenetic analysis, statistical analysis;

Sample curation: Coordinate and maintain clinical sample banks, including sample processing and high-fidelity data entry;

Field work: Provide support for field works;

Documentation and Reporting: Document and present findings and assist in preparing reports and publications; and

Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science or related disciplines. Excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic; ability to work independently and collaboratively; willingness and ability to respond to challenges and to acquire new skills are required. The ability to speak Cantonese and/or Putonghua is desirable.

Salary and Conditions of Service

Salary offered will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental consultations at the campus clinic.
