Senior SQL Database Systems Administrator
Location: Dublin (Hybrid)

Job Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior SQL Database Systems Administrator to join our client in Dublin. The role requires a strong background in database optimization, performance tuning, and system upgrades, with a focus on ensuring the efficiency and security of critical SQL systems. This is a unique opportunity to work in a senior role, optimizing key SQL systems and ensuring their long-term success. The successful candidate will be integral in providing technical leadership and support in a dynamic public sector environment.
Key Responsibilities:Phase 1:

• Database Optimization & Performance Tuning:

Analyze and optimize the current on-premise Finance and Accounts system in terms of SQL database performance and infrastructure (VMWare Windows).

• Check for database corruption issues.
• Advise on Index Optimization strategy.
• Ensure logging processes and associated tasks are running optimally.
• Produce detailed reports and action lists, and implement changes as agreed with senior management.

Phase 2:

• Database Review & Upgrades:

Review all Council database systems, conducting upgrades and migrations to later versions of SQL and Windows servers as necessary.

• Perform database support, troubleshooting, and upgrades.
• Resolve database issues in a timely manner and ensure systems run at optimal performance.
• Ensure statistics are up-to-date and check for database corruption.
• Access Control & Monitoring:

Implement best practices for access control, including service account configuration and applying the principle of least privilege.

• Backup & Log Management:

Advise on backup strategies and ensure disk space and transactional logs are monitored and managed effectively.

• Test backup and recovery processes to meet business expectations for recovery time and point-in-time recovery.
• SQL Health Checks & Reporting:

Conduct regular health checks of SQL databases, producing recommendations and reports in an actionable format.

• Liaison with Application Service Providers:

Work closely with providers such as Agresso, Ascendus, and NEC Housing to ensure seamless database support.

• Hands-on Support:

Provide support and guidance to SDCC staff, including shadowing opportunities and technical assistance as needed.

• Documentation & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

Develop thorough documentation for all processes, including SOPs for database management.

• Service Level Agreement (SLA) Adherence:

Track hours and maintain adherence to the established SLA.
Mandatory Requirements:

• Experience Level:

At least 7+ years of experience as a Database Systems Administrator, with a focus on SQL databases.

• Qualifications:

Relevant degree in an IT-related field.

• English Language Proficiency:
• Candidates who are non-native English speakers must have a C2 level certification under the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

• Analysis & Documentation: Strong ability to analyze database systems and document findings and processes.
• Migration & Upgrading: Expertise in SQL upgrades and migrations to newer versions.
• SQL in Cloud & Hybrid Environments: Experience with cloud and hybrid setups for SQL environments.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization: Deep understanding of SQL performance tuning and optimization strategies.
• Backup, Recovery & High Availability: Proficiency in ensuring robust backup and recovery processes.
• Security Management: Strong grasp of SQL security management, including access control and least privilege principles.
• ETL (Extract, Transform, Load): Hands-on experience with ETL processes.
• Scripting & Automation: Ability to script and automate database tasks.
• Data Integrity & Quality Assurance: Ensuring the highest levels of data integrity and quality.
• Power BI Support: Familiarity with supporting Power BI and related reporting tools.
• Core Data Services: Ability to build core data services for internal consumption.
• Local Government Experience: Previous experience working within local government environments.
• Agresso Financial Management: Experience managing and optimizing Agresso FM databases.

Contract length: 12 months
Pay: €63,396.47-€68,718.87 per year
