What you do
As Economic Specialist, you assist and advise the Front Office, Political-Economic Counselor, Economic Chief, and economic officers in policy advocacy on behalf of Mission goals across a broad range of economic issues, including entrepreneurship, innovation, climate, and critical and emerging technologies such as semiconductors, quantum, AI, and telecommunications. Working independently as one of three local staff supporting the work of the Pol/Econ Section and the only local staff in the Economic Unit, you track all economic issues in the Netherlands. You draft reports and provide expert research, reporting, advice, and related services of broad scope and complexity on Dutch macroeconomic trends; domestic, regional, and international economic policy as pertains to the Netherlands; investment screening, sanctions, economic security including supply chains/competition, and other environment, science, and health issues. As a foundation for policy advocacy, you develop and maintain regular contacts with mid-to-senior level stakeholders and policy makers up to the CEO/Minister level.
What we ask (minimal requirements to apply)
· A university degree in a relevant major field of study, such as history, business/economics, science, government and/or journalism or local equivalent.
· At least five years of progressively responsible experience in program management, research and analysis, planning and strategy related to government, business, ICT, public policy, and/or law with proven skill in written presentation of analysis and advocacy in the areas of economic, business, and policy issues.
· Fluent English and Dutch (speaking/reading/writing).
OR
· At least two years of college or university studies (no specific field required).
· At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in program management, research and analysis, planning and strategy related to government, business, ICT, public policy, and/or law with proven skill in written presentation of analysis and advocacy in the areas of economic, business, and policy issues.
· Fluent English and Dutch (speaking/reading writing).
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass security certification and may be required to obtain a Certificate of Conduct for Natural Persons (VOG) from the Ministry of Safety and Justice of the Netherlands.
What we offer
· Annual salary of EUR 65,841 – EUR 92,180
· 8.33 % End of year bonus (13th month)
· 8.2% Holiday bonus

· One-year contract which will be renewed under the same conditions based on job performance, funding, and security clearance.
