Job description

Turbulence distortion analysis of a rotor interacting with lifting surface
The candidate will start with the numerical analysis, experimentally validated, of the distorted field created by the interaction of a rotor with a lifting surface. The study will start with the definition of the most interesting configuration with no flow for applications in VTOL, with special focus in transition and maneuvering configurations. A numerical high fidelity analysis will be carried out, concurrently combined to a stochastical analysis. The latter will be devoted to reproduce the real turbulence distortion field with a subset of aerodynamic flow invariants, describing different flow patterns and their stability. The aim is to describe different flow patterns and their stability with a subset of relevant flow invariants to be combined in one single mathematical framework..

Requirements

The candidate should have:

• a MSc degree in Engineering, Physics or Mathematics, an area relevant to the subject,
• good analytical skills and a strong interest in performing experiments is required.
• a solid knowledge of signal processing and mathematical theories,
• advanced programming skills are advantageous for these positions.

As the project is part of a larger research program, practical interactions and collaborative skills are important too.
Doing a Ph D at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. Conditions of employment

Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1,5 year contract with an official go/no go progress assessment within 15 months. Followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2,5 years assuming everything goes well and performance requirements are met.
Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2872 per month in the first year to € 3670 in the fourth year. As a Ph D candidate you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School.
