The Hague

FULL TIME

Location: Den Haag
Max hours per week: 38,00
Max salary: 6,148
Duration of agreement: 1 Year, option of extension based on funding and performance

Are you interested in the link between social science data and policies? Do you have a special talent in communicating with different stakeholders? Are you interested in gender, family changes and related policies? Do you want to gain a unique experience in working for an international research infrastructure? We are looking for a new colleague to join our team.

What is the GGP?
The Generations and Gender Programme is a cross-national research infrastructure for high-quality, open-access data about population and family dynamics. The main component is the Generation & Gender Survey (GGS) – a unique longitudinal data source on families and people’s life courses across different countries. Currently, new data is being collected in several European, Asian, and South-American countries.

The GGP Central Hub is part of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) and located in the center of The Hague. It is responsible for the day-to-day management of the GGP, which includes providing support to national teams in collecting GGS data, and processing the collected data for release to the scientific community.
What are we looking for?
The Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) currently has a vacancy for a postdoc position focusing on impact and international partnership. Specifically, we are looking for a new team member who can take the lead with knowledge dissemination and stakeholder engagement. This will include:
  • Developing a strategy to promote the GGP to a wide range of stakeholders (eg. dissemination material, social media, events)
  • Enhancing and monitoring the impact of the GGP, including its scientific and societal relevance
  • Building and maintaining relationships with different stakeholders in the Netherlands and abroad
  • Supporting prospective countries in their participation in the GGP

In addition, the new team member will be expected to also support the work of the Central Hub (at NIDI) and its director as needed, including project management tasks.

What you will be bringing
You are a dynamic and versatile candidate, who can support the work of the Central Hub and can adapt quickly to changing priorities. You:
  • Recently completed a Ph D in social sciences or communication, or another relevant discipline (or master degree with relevant years of experience)
  • Have expertise in some of the topics covered by the Generations and Gender Survey (eg. gender inequalities, young adults, fertility)
  • Have a very good knowledge of statistical software (Stata or R) and data visualisation
  • Have knowledge of the European data landscape and/or experience in linking data and policies, including at the international level
  • Are highly adaptable and able to manage changing priorities with ease, and are eager to learn and take on new challenges
  • Have strong communication skills in English (written and oral) (note that a high knowledge of Dutch will be an asset)

What we offer
We offer a postdoc position which will:
  • Add an international dimension to your career, by working in close contact with the GGP international partners
  • Help address societal challenges related to gender inequality, young adults, and life course by providing policy-relevant social data
  • Gain experience in working in an EU-funded project (GGP-5D)
  • Further develop your professional profile, gain valuable work experience, and achieve professional growth, including by being embedded in an international renowned demographic institute

The candidate is expected to start as soon as possible (ideally before 1 January 2025). The appointment will be for a period of 12 months. Any extension will be contingent on performance, availability of funds, and the human resource needs of the infrastructure. Dutch law stipulates a maximum of 4 years in total for a temporary research-based contract.

To apply:
Candidates are invited to submit their application in English via the 'Apply Now' button on vacatures.knaw.nl. Applications must include:
  • A motivation letter (max 2 pages)
  • A curriculum vitae (including the names of two referees)
The deadline for submitting the application is 11 November 2024. Please address your application to the director of NIDI, prof. dr. H.A.G. de Valk. The interviews have provisionally been scheduled for 18 November.

For additional information you may contact Prof. Anne Gauthier (gauthier@nidi.nl).
