Wageningen University & Research
Technician Spectroscopy
Wageningen
FULL TIME & PART TIME
November 7, 2024
Your teaching activities mainly involve laboratory classes and tutorials. This ranges from preparing laboratory rooms and analytical samples to providing instructions related to (NMR, IR and UV) spectroscopy equipment. In this work, the design and performance of proper analytical measurements in a safe and accurate way, as well as the acquisition and interpretation of the resulting spectral data, often in the context of structure elucidation, are amongst the key learning goals.
These activities can be directly extended to your work in our research environment, mainly to support BSc and MSc thesis students, Ph D students and other researchers. In this research setting, many more techniques play a key role, and – next to the mentioned techniques and fluorescence spectroscopy – these include atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, quartz-crystal microbalance and electrochemical equipment, and also more complex techniques, including X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Auger electron spectroscopy. Explaining, using and maintaining this broad set of high-end equipment is a core part of your activities. Some of the equipment is part of shared research facilities, and this requires good alignment and swift communication with external parties.
For these support tasks and responsibilities in education and research, a combination of a hands-on approach and in-depth understanding is needed. When giving instructions, you will effectively set the standard for performance. This, combined with equipment management and basic maintenance, is crucial in ensuring the quality of our education and research.
As technician you will be part of a larger group of support staff (for both education and research) that works within the Laboratory of Organic Chemistry. As part of this group, we expect you to positively contribute to a safe, collegial and open work atmosphere. Wageningen University & Research offers excellent terms of employment. A few highlights from our Collective Labour Agreement include:
- sabbatical leave, study leave, and partially paid parental leave;
- working hours that can be discussed and arranged so that they allow for the best possible work-life balance;
- there is a strong focus on vitality and you can make use of the sports facilities available on campus for a small fee;
- a fixed December bonus of 8.3%;
- excellent pension scheme.

We are offering a unique position in an international environment with a pleasant and open working atmosphere.
