Contract Management Lead

You will manage the day-to-day operations of the contract management function, focusing on efficient project support and contract administration services that align with Council strategies and policies. This role demands a commitment to service excellence and a professional approach to maintaining a positive public profile. As a key member of the Programme Delivery team, you'll actively contribute to fostering a strong performance culture and help drive organisational success.
Other responsibilities include:
- Advise Project Managers on contract decisions, from contract choice and conditions to tender preparation, review, and post-tender negotiation.
- Oversee contract processes to ensure they are fit for purpose and efficient.
- Maintain and monitor contract registers for Infrastructure and Programme Delivery.
- Establish a Contractor Performance Framework to evaluate supplier performance.
- Ensure adherence to all council policies, legislation, and contract obligations.
- Serve as the primary operational contact for contract matters within the Infrastructure Directorate.
- Review and control all contract documentation, including GETS lodgement.
- Contribute to building a high-performing, customer-focused team.
- Foster a stakeholder and solutions-focused culture.
- Support health and safety policies and strategies.
- Guide Project Coordinators in supporting Infrastructure and Programme Delivery.
- Relevant degree or equivalent knowledge
- 5+ years’ experience in managing professional services and physical works contracts
- Strong understanding of NZ contract documentation (NZS 3910, 3915, 3916, 3917), contract law, and government procurement rules
- Technical knowledge of NZ standards, NZTA specifications, and Local Authority processes for roading, utility, and building projects
- Experienced in contract administration and GETS
- Knowledge of project management frameworks and practices in New Zealand
- Experience in delivering Local Authority roading, utility, and building projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent relationship-building and influencing abilities
