Our Youth Specialty Service (YSS) in Dunedin provides assessment, support and treatment for youth experiencing moderate to severe mental health issues, including support to family.
This position will see you managing a caseload, providing assessment, treatment and co-working to facilitate the best outcome for the patient and family. You will enjoy working collaboratively alongside other experienced clinical staff to promote healthy family systems and be able to form sound links with external agencies.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
As a Registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker you will have a sound knowledge of appropriate youth focussed mental health interventions and provide specialised assessment and treatment, be familiar with group processes, with a strong emphasis on family inclusion for those youth experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
To be successful in this role you will be flexible, have a commitment to delivering excellence to youth and their family in an age appropriate and culturally appropriate manner. Liaise effectively in partnership with community agencies to support the youth’s health and wellbeing.

As a key worker you will have a sound knowledge of appropriate youth focussed mental health interventions and provide specialised assessment and treatment, with a strong emphasis on family inclusion for those youth experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties.
In this role you will be committed to delivering excellence to youth and their family in an age appropriate and culturally appropriate manner, both in individual sessions and working alongside whanau. You will liaise effectively in partnership with community agencies to support the youth’s health and wellbeing.
Our ideal candidate will:
- Registered Nurse, Social Worker or Occupational Therapist with current APC
- Experience in working with adolescents with moderate to severe mental illness is preferred
- Previous experience in Mental Health Triage
- Current New Zealand Drivers licence

Registered Nurse
This role belongs to the Te Whatu Ora /NZNO Collective Agreement and falls between Step 2 ($81,863 p.a. pro-rata) and Step 7 ($106,739) of the Registered Nurse Salary Scale.
Social Worker and Occupational Therapist
This role belongs to the PSA/Te Whatu Ora Allied, Public Health and Technical Multi-Employer Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($74,842 p.a) and Step 7 ($104,466 p.a pro rata) of the Degree-Based Allied, Public Health and Technical scale.
