Mō te tūnga | About the role

The Policy Group provides centralised policy advice to the Minister and Associate Minister of Police, and to the Police Executive. We work closely with stakeholders across Police to ensure advice meets the goals of the government of the day, while also reflecting the needs and insights of our frontline. The breadth of policing activity means we also work with colleague agencies from across a diverse range of sectors, from the health and social sectors, to the transport and justice sectors.

We are looking for an experienced Policy leader, with a proven track record of leading and managing policy teams. As the Manager of the National Security and Cyber Policy Team, you will be responsible for taking a system-level approach that contributes to a well-functioning national security system. You will ensure that policy resources are deployed in a transparent and flexible way to meet changing demands of the Policy Group work programme. We are looking for someone who can work effectively and collaboratively across a complex stakeholder environment.

As a member of the Policy Leadership Team, you will be an active contributor to supporting the success of the wider Policy Group. You will share our ongoing commitment to continuously building the performance of our Group and growing our people.

Key Accountabilities:
Leading a high-performing Policy Team through strong performance management, while maintaining a culture of development and collaboration.

Working effectively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.

Ensuring policy services are delivered within a strong focus on customer service, Māori responsiveness, partnerships and community orientated policing framework.

Actively contributing to continuous policy quality improvement and to building the capability of the Team and the wider Policy Group.

To be eligible for this role, you may be asked to obtain and maintain a CONFIDENTIAL national security clearance.

The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is:

NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or:

A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or

A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

Utu ā-tau | Salary

This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence between $151,381 and $156,426 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
