Te Whiwhinga Mahi | The Opportunity
We are looking for new members to join the Pharmacology and Therapeutics Advisory Committee (PTAC) in 2025. Applications are welcome for the roles of PTAC Chair and up to three PTAC members.
PTAC is a statutory advisory committee to Pharmac - Te Pātaka Whaioranga. It is made up of vocationally registered health practitioners with expertise in critical appraisal. The Committee provides objective clinical advice and recommendations to help Pharmac make funding decisions for medicines and medical devices to get the best health outcomes for all New Zealanders.
PTAC members are appointed by the Director-General of Health in consultation with the Pharmac Board. In their advisory role to the Crown, all PTAC members are expected to undertake their duties in a manner consistent with the Government Policy Statement (GPS) on Health 2024-27 and the Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022 health sector principles.
PTAC usually meets four times a year, over one or two days in Wellington and/or through videoconferencing. Members are expected to spend around 30 - 40 hours preparing for each meeting in the month prior to the meeting. Members are remunerated for their time and are appointed for three-year terms.

Ko wai koe | About you
We are seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced health practitioners who are in active clinical practice. Ideal candidates may also bring primary care or cancer care perspectives and/or have sound understanding and experience in te Ao Māori and matauranga Māori.
Candidates should have:
- excellent critical appraisal skills
- a good general knowledge of pharmaceuticals
- a good understanding of evidence-based medicine in clinical practice
- a strong understanding of health equity (Pharmac Equity policy) and the health needs of Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled peoples including tāngata whaikaha Māori, and other populations identified by the Government Policy Statement on Health 2024-2027 to have high health needs
- at least five years' experience in their vocational field
- the ability to balance individual and population health perspectives
