The Opportunity:
As Senior Legal Partner, you will play a key role in supporting Kiwi Rail’s capital projects, infrastructure, and general commercial legal work. This fixed-term position is to cover for one of our team members going on parental leave, with an anticipated duration of 10-12 months, depending on the start date.

In this role, you’ll partner closely with our senior business leaders, providing pragmatic, solutions-focused legal advice to support commercial and operational excellence. Key Responsibilities:

• Provide expert legal advice on commercial contracts, legislation, and capital project work.
• Partner with Kiwi Rail business leaders to ensure legal support aligns with strategic and operational goals.
• Collaborate across teams to find solutions that drive commercial success and risk management.
• Support dispute resolution and regulatory compliance, ensuring Kiwi Rail’s operations run smoothly.
• Promote a culture of safety and excellence within the Legal team.

What We’re Looking For:

• A law degree with 10+ years of post-admission experience is desirable, though other relevant experience will be considered.
• Proven experience in commercial law, ideally within infrastructure, capital projects or large commercial entities.
• A pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach to legal challenges.
• Strong relationship management skills and a customer-first attitude.
• Previous experience in the freight, infrastructure, or engineering sectors is advantageous.
