Semplice Restaurant is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Sous Chef to join our team. We are a high-end Italian restaurant that values quality, precision, and a passion for the culinary arts.
As the Sous Chef, you will work closely with our Head Chef to ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen. This role demands leadership, creativity, and a deep understanding of Italian cuisine.
Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the kitchen during service, ensuring the efficient preparation and presentation of dishes
• Oversee all food preparation and cooking activities, with particular attention to traditional and modern Italian techniques
• Manage kitchen staff, ensuring training, development, and adherence to quality standards
• Open the deli in the mornings and prepare sandwiches, ensuring freshness, quality, and consistency
• Collaborate with the Head Chef in menu planning, food costing, and ordering of ingredients
• Maintain high levels of cleanliness and organization, ensuring all health and safety regulations are rigorously followed
• Supervise food storage and stock control, ensuring the kitchen operates in line with a first-in, first-out rotation system
• Ensure all dishes leaving the kitchen meet our exacting standards for presentation, taste, and consistency
• Engage with front-of-house and management staff to ensure smooth service and a cohesive team dynamic
• Demonstrate advanced cooking techniques, particularly in pasta preparation and Italian culinary specialties
• Contribute to continuous improvement, bringing fresh ideas to the menu and kitchen processes

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a senior kitchen position, with at least 3-5 years in European/Italian cuisine
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to mentor and manage a team
• A comprehensive understanding of kitchen operations, including food safety, stock control, and menu development
• Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Passionate about maintaining the highest standards of culinary excellence

Availability: This is a full-time role requiring availability on weekends.
Eligibility: Candidates must have the right to work in New Zealand. This role does not support the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).

Pay: $28.00 – $32.00 per hour
