Job specific information
This role is for a Qualified Speech Language Therapist to provide home and community-based services as part of the CCS Disability Action Early Intervention services for disabled children from birth to school age.

About the role:
  • Coordinate high quality services that are creative, flexible, and responsive to the needs of disabled children and their families / whānau.
  • Services focus on improving / maintaining inclusion of disabled children within their families / whānau and the wider community.
  • Coordinate delivery of contracted services which meet the funders’ specifications.
  • Work in ways which are consistent with the Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional and organisational behaviour and practice.
  • Using standardised and informal tools as appropriate to assess the needs of children who have been referred for Early Intervention service.
  • Communicate and document these appropriately.
  • Ensure goals and frequency of visits are holistic, transdisciplinary and consider the changing needs of the child and family and whānau.
  • Family and Whānau are consulted as integral team members; are educated and empowered to support the needs of their child and how to work effectively with them.
  • Have a knowledge of or willingness to learn about AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication) and its application. If appropriate gain AAC accreditation for funding applications through Enable NZ. Be able to work collaboratively with organisations such as Talklink.
  • Recognise safety issues for children, young people and vulnerable adults, respond to these and refer to appropriate supports / organisations (internal and external).
  • Attend, participate in and seek training /professional development opportunities (including internal and external supervision).
  • Develop and maintain community connections and networks and promote the concept of inclusion and community development.
  • To undertake other tasks as agreed with your Service Manager.
About you:
  • A Degree in Speech Language Therapy.
  • Current New Zealand registration with Speech Language Therapist’s Association would be an advantage, however, not essential.
  • Experience in working with children with additional learning needs would be an advantage.
  • Experience or knowledge of AAC implementation would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of the principles of family / whānau centered and directed intervention and planning.
  • Committed to providing quality services to disabled children and their families and whānau.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Restricted or Full Driver’s license or have access to transport.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and reporting skills.
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and the ability to uphold the principles.
