The Department of Human Nutrition at the University of Otago is the longest established department of its kind at a New Zealand University. The Department supports BSc, MSc, MApp Sc, and Ph D students. Our teaching addresses research frontiers alongside real-world challenges, and our graduates are knowledgeable about the important place of nutrition in achieving social equity and supporting the wellbeing of individuals and communities.
The Department has a long-standing commitment to research and teaching on the impact human nutrition has on the health and wellbeing for individuals and communities, regionally, nationally, and internationally. We aim to connect issues specific to Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific region with themes in the international, professional, and research discourse.
The role/Te mahi
We are seeking to appoint a permanent Teaching Fellow role in Human Nutrition. We welcome applicants with expertise across the breadth of Human Nutrition, including applicants with expertise in clinical nutrition and public health, and Māori and Pacific health.
In this role, you will contribute to teaching into our 300-level undergraduate curriculum in Human Nutrition, which includes collaborative teaching activities, assessing student performance and as required, collaboratively developing course content and teaching materials.
This is an opportunity for an energetic, creative and committed individual to significantly contribute to the teaching curriculum of a collegial and dynamic department and university.
Skills and experience/Kā pūkeka me kā wheako
- BSc (or equivalent), MSc, MApp Sc or MDiet qualification in Human Nutrition.
- Enthusiasm for, and preferably experience in, research-informed teaching approaches in Human Nutrition.
- Ability to prioritise tasks, balance competing demands, navigate and collaborate effectively with a variety of working styles.
- Willingness to learn or knowledge of te ao Māori and its role in fostering student success at the University.
- Skills and commitment to strengthening curriculum in relation to te ao Māori and mātauranga Māori.
- Ability and willingness to develop a firm commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi), the University’s Māori Strategic Framework and Pacific Strategic Framework, and to equity. Some experience working with Māori and Pacific communities in nutrition and health is desirable.
This is a permanent, part-time (0.8 FTE) position based in Dunedin.
We anticipate that the successful applicant will be able to start in early 2025, please indicate your availability in your cover letter.
The salary range is $70,692 to $82,008 per annum (pro-rata).
