Job Title: Market Assistant
Location: 8 Lobito Crescent, Wuse 2, Abuja, Nigeria
Reports to: Market Manager/Market Operations Lead
Employment Type: Full-Time
Job Overview:
The Market Assistant will be responsible for providing administrative and operational support within the market environment. This role involves coordinating day-to-day market activities, assisting vendors, ensuring the smooth operation of market functions, and maintaining a positive experience for both vendors and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Vendor Support:
- Assist vendors with registration, setup, and daily operations within the market.
- Ensure vendors are adhering to market regulations and guidelines.
- Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
2. Market Operations:
- Help manage the setup and breakdown of market spaces, ensuring stalls are properly arranged and maintained.
- Monitor the cleanliness and organization of the market environment, ensuring it meets safety and health standards.
- Coordinate with security personnel to ensure a safe and secure marketplace.
3. Customer Service:
- Provide assistance to customers by answering questions, directing them to specific vendors, and offering information about market activities.
- Handle customer complaints or issues in a professional and timely manner.
4. Inventory and Supply Management:
- Assist in managing market supplies such as signage, equipment, and promotional materials.
- Keep track of inventory and restock supplies as necessary.
5. Event Coordination:
- Help organize and execute market-related events, such as promotional activities, vendor showcases, and seasonal markets.
- Coordinate with event planners and marketing teams to ensure smooth event operations.
6. Administrative Duties:
- Assist with vendor registration, collect fees, and manage necessary documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of market activities, including sales reports, attendance, and inventory logs.
- Assist with data entry and other clerical tasks as needed.
7. Marketing and Promotion:
- Assist in promoting market events and activities through social media, flyers, and direct communication with vendors and customers.
- Gather customer and vendor feedback to help improve the market’s offerings.
8. Miscellaneous Duties:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Market Manager, including assisting with seasonal or special projects.
- Ensure all market rules and regulations are followed by vendors and customers alike.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent (additional certifications in market operations or business administration are a plus).
- Previous experience in a market, retail, or customer service environment is preferred.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management and sales processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills.
- Ability to handle physical tasks, such as moving equipment and setting up stalls.
Working Conditions:
- Requires working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for long periods and perform some light physical labor.
- Flexible working hours, including weekends and public holidays, based on market schedules.
