Fakultet for teknologi, kunst og design (TKD) utgjør et sterkt og mangfoldig faglig miljø med tydelig internasjonalt preg. Fakultet TKD har om lag 4 000 studenter og 400 ansatte, og holder til i Pilestredet i Oslo sentrum og på Kjeller utenfor Lillestrøm. Fakultetet utfører forskning og tilbyr utdanning på bachelor-, master- og doktorgradsnivå innen teknologi, kunst og design.
The Department of Mechanical, Electrical, and Chemical Engineering (MEK) is one of five departments in the Faculty of Technology, Art and Design. The department offers three bachelor’s degree programs and two master’s degree programs, in addition to research and development activities. The department has approximately 40 staff members, 10 Ph D students, and 800 students.
We offer a comprehensive range of activities in Mechanical Engineering and provide study programs from Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees to Ph D levels. Additionally, we are currently developing Grønn Met - the Green Energy Lab. The lab is designed to conduct experiments that align with sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, and is designated for students, Ph D candidates, teaching staff and researchers.
The research group Mechanics, Mechatronics, and Material Technology focuses on uniting our core technical areas of fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, and mechatronics to perform innovative research in Green Energy.
MEK has a vacant position as Assistant Professor in Fluid Mechanics & Thermodynamics. The candidate will teach at the bachelor program in mechanical engineering, and possibly at the master’s degree program. The candidate is also expected to initiate and carry out relevant professional and pedagogical development work.
The engineers of the future must have a high level of professional competence and the ability to work interdisciplinary in an international environment. Students must acquire and develop solid theoretical knowledge and practical skills in addition to social skills. The department emphasizes that teaching, supervision and development must take place in a good learning environment. We are therefore looking for a candidate with a talent and a passion for teaching and a positive attitude towards students’ development.
The candidate must have a keenness for developing academic skills and an interest in digital and innovative educational techniques and practices. Experience from development work in, or in close collaboration with, the industry is also important.
The candidate is expected to actively strengthen and shape the academic environment at the department and the university in general, including interdisciplinary work across departments at TKD, as well as in collaboration with other faculties at Oslo Met.

Your main duties and areas of responsibility will be to
- plan, develop and deliver courses at bachelor and possibly master levels
- supervision of students
- actively contributing to the development of high-quality education at MEK and Oslo Met as a whole
- initiate and participate in projects for educational purposes. This includes applying for external funding for educational purposes.
- perform administrative tasks related to educational activities
Qualification requirements
- master`s degree in Mechanical engineering or a related field
-
working knowledge and teaching ability in as many as possible of the following topics:
- fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
- hydraulics and different machine systems (pumps for example)
- experience in teaching and supervision in higher education
- experience in collaborating with, or direct experience from, private and public sector
- written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language, and English.
For applicants who cannot document competencies within teaching in higher education have to develop this within two years from accession. Oslo Met offers courses in teaching and learning in higher education which covers this requirement.
Oslo Met will test the candidates’ pedagogical skills in connection with interviews.
Emphasis will be placed on
- written and oral proficiency in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language
- connections in the Norwegian business community
- experience with mechanical engineering simulation tools such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, Open FOAM, Starts-CCM+, Fluid Sim, and so on
- experience with designing innovative multidisciplinary engineering projects

working knowledge and teaching ability in as many as possible of the following topics:
- solid mechanics and finite element analysis
- advanced materials
- pedagogical education

- flexibility and the ability to adapt teaching to the needs of the department and Oslo Met, including interdisciplinary topics

The salary for the position is in accordance with the Basic Collective Agreement for state employees and Oslo Mets pay policy for Assistant Professor in code 1009, corresponding to NOK 509 300-646 000 per year. From the salary, 2% will be deducted in pension contributions for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (SPK). A higher salary may be considered for particularly well-qualified applicants.
