Researcher
At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biomedicine, a full-time permanent position as researcher is available. The position is external financed by the Research Council of Norway and for the time being a part of the project “Mitochondria transfer in malignant brain tumors”. The project has a temporary financing for 3 years.
About the Department/project/work tasks:
Our research group is working on mechanisms of invasion and therapy resistance in human glioblastoma, the most frequent and most malignant primary brain tumour. Our research is based on cell culture and animal models. A special focus of the project are microtubes, which are important communication structures connecting tumour cells as well as tumour and stromal cells. Within this project, new mechanisms of microtube/nanotube formation will be investigated and the possibility of mitochondrial transfer between tumour cells as well as tumour and stromal cells through microtubes will be analysed. Work tasks:
  • Design, plan and perform in vitro and in vivo experiments for the project described above
  • Participation in writing of publications and research grants
  • Participation in supervision of Ph D and masters students
Qualifications and personal qualities:
  • the applicant must hold a relevant Norwegian Ph D or equivalent doctoral degree
  • the candidate must have a strong background in cell biology and preferentially cancer research and/or brain cancer research
  • the candidate must have experience with animal work (FELASA C or equivalent) including surgical interventions
  • the candidate should have a good publication track record including recent first author publications (showing active ongoing research)
  • applicants who have experience with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, western blot, CRISPR/Cas9 and lentiviral vectors are particularly welcome to apply for this position
  • the applicant must be experienced in counseling, teaching, writing manuscripts and preferentially also grant applications
  • the applicant must be motivated and responsible, and also have a great work capacity and enthusiasm for research
  • personal skills, including abilities to work independently and cooperate within a research group will be evaluated
  • the candidate must be fluent in written and oral English
  • experience with international collaboration is an advantage
We can offer:
  • a good and challenging work environment in research front of brain cancer research
  • salary pay grade 64 NOK 583 500 (code 1109/salary scale 24.8), specialist pay grade 66 NOK 604 700 (code 1109/salary scale 24.10) gross p.a. for a fulltime position; following ordinary meriting regulations. A higher salary may be considered for a particularly well qualified applicant.
  • enrolment in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund

    It is very important that each of the scholarly works on which the committee should place special emphasis, is attached in its entirety.

The following premise forms the basis for the post as researcher:
  • the researcher will be a member of the research group of which the topic/project belongs to
  • the salary shall if possible be 100 % covered by external financing
  • the researcher shall actively contribute to attract external funding to the research project, both for her/his own position and other positions, from the Research Council of Norway, EU and other sources
  • the researcher is expected to have her/his research activity financed by the project of the researcher and the projects of the associated research group
  • the Head of Department may allocate work for the Researcher related to specific research projects
  • the researcher may participate in committee work and other administrative tasks within the University of Bergen
  • the researcher has no teaching duties, but is expected to supervise master students and Ph D candidates when this is a natural part of the research activity of the research group
  • the researcher may apply for competence promotion according to the regulations for promotions
  • the basis for the position ceases if no further project funding and new law on state officials etc. on dismissal and preferential rights will be applied to permanent employees
