About the position
Oslo University Hospital (OUH) is Norway’s largest hospital with over 20 000 employees and a budget of 20 billion NOK. It is a local hospital for parts of Oslo's population. The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1814 and is Norway's oldest medical faculty. The Faculty works for progressive education, research and dissemination for the patients’ and society’s best interests. It is organized into three basic units and has approximately 1 500 employees (about 1 000 work years) and about 2 000 students.
A permanent position as Senior Consultant (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) is available at the Division of Neuroscience/Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Oslo University Hospital. The position is affiliated with a part-time position as Adjunct Professor SKO 1013 /Associate Professor SKO 1011 (20 % position) in Medicine (Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (Ui O). It is required that the position holder attends to both positions.

Regarding the full-time clinical position at OUH:
Department of physical medicine and rehabilitation is organized in the Clinic for Neurosciences. The department has both an inpatient unit and an outpatient unit, divided into the sections for neck and back pain, musculoskeletal pain and rehabilitation after head injuries. There are 13 senior physician positions and 5 resident positions. The department has a research section with the two research groups; Painful musculoskeletal conditions and Rehabilitation after trauma. The research is clinically oriented and multidisciplinary, and there are 6 part-time professor/associate professors, as well as between 10 and 20 post doctors and Ph D candidates.

Short description of the position’s work tasks:
The senior consultant is expected to take part in all clinical work in the department including:
  • Assessment and treatment of patients with painful musculoskeletal conditions in the departments outpatient sections.
  • Treatment and rehabilitation of patients in the early phases after traumatic brain injuries and other severe conditions (inpatient early rehabilitation)
  • Participating in the multidiscplinary teams
  • Assess referrals and contribute in other relevant administrative processes
  • Supervise junior clinicians and students
  • Contribute to developement of registers and quality systems at department and hospital level .


Qualification requirements – education and relevant personal qualities

  • Senior Consultant positions: Requirement for Norwegian specialist training in Physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Applicants must be clinically active and have a wide experience in clinical work with painful musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Experience from the field of rehabilitation in general is also required, along with experience in clinical research within the field of physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Communication skills and experience with multidisciplinary teamwork is required
  • Skills and experience with coordination and management
  • Interest and experience with teaching and supervision
  • Experience with quality and patient safety projects
  • Name and contact information for 2 references
