The affiliated Aga Khan University Hospital provides state-of-the-art clinical facilities and well-equipped diagnostic services. The University currently has teaching sites in Pakistan, East Africa, the United Kingdom, and Afghanistan, and is a major component of Aga Khan Development Network.

The Department of Paediatrics and Child Health is committed to providing state-of-the-art clinical services to children. It imparts high-quality undergraduate and postgraduate training and subspecialty training and research opportunities. Besides the outpatient clinics, the inpatient set-up consists of a Paediatric ward with two units comprising 107 beds, a state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive care unit with the latest equipment and protocols in place and a capacity of 24 high acuity beds with one is to one staffing along with 10 bedded level 2 care monitored cots. The Neonatal section offers a 2-year Neonatal fellowship training and is one the oldest and established fellowship program with 6 fellows. In addition to care for sick babies, the section also provides services along with Paediatric consultants to the Well babies in the post-natal wards.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible to:

analyse and understand the genomics data and its clinical relevance for patient care and academic work in the field
conduct Genetics Clinics as Genetic Counsellor and be directly involved in patient care
participate in multi-disciplinary patient-centered meetings and lead academic activities
educate and train students, trainees and junior faculty on the basics of genomics and advances in the field that interlinks with the mainstream medicine
serve as an interface between the investigators, clinicians, patients and the research subjects
carry a clinical, academic and educational role centered around Genomic Medicine
conduct genetic counselling clinics in prenatal/perinatal, paediatric and adult genetics areas
conduct various analysis of Genomic data collected from clinical practice and various research collaborations
develop high-quality research proposals for funding agency, conduct research and contribute to publications and manuscripts
build academic collaborations for disease-specific Genomics and Public Health Genomics research
engage with medical students, trainees and faculty for educational sessions and workshops focusing on the basics and emerging trends in Genomics.

Requirements

You should have:

Masters of Science degree in Genomic Medicine or equivalent along with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biological Sciences or equivalent
at least two years of work experience in the relevant field
expertise in Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data interpretation, in-silico analysis and basic bioinformatics
adequate exposure in direct patient interaction and understanding of the complexities of genetics in clinical settings
excellent command in developing high-quality research proposals for funding agencies and to contribute in publications and manuscripts for dissemination to a wider audience
an ability to effectively work independently as well as with diverse teams.
