Examples of Duties
- Trains and supervises assigned personnel to ensure compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures.
- Supervises and assists in the maintenance of irrigation systems.
- Supervises and participates in the installation of athletic turf, including prep work, laying, rolling, and clean-up.
- Applies herbicides and fungicides; applies fertilizer to park turf; ensures compliance with all laws and regulations.
- Supervises and participates in sports field maintenance, including the maintenance of infields, mounds, dugouts, batters boxers, etc.; drags fields; maintains baseball, softball, and other recreation fields.
- Supervises and participates in mowing, weed eating, edging, and landscaping activities.
- Supervises and participates in the maintenance of playground equipment.
- Assists in the management of athletic equipment, including goals, flags, bases, etc.; operates paint machines to lay-out sports fields.
- Supervises and assists in the installation of holiday decorations.
- Assists in coordinating the purchase of equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Assists with work performed by outside contractors.
- Performs related duties.
Typical Qualifications
- Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
- Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Florida for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Possession of a Florida Certified Pesticide Applicator License.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Parks and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.
GUIDELINES
Guidelines include safety protocols, chemical application regulations, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
- The work consists of related technical and supervisory duties. The variety of tasks to be performed contributes to the complexity of the work.
- The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the work of a crew of parks and recreation personnel. Successful performance in this position contributes to the efficient and effective maintenance of parks facilities and grounds.
CONTACTS
- Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city personnel, vendors, contractors, and the general public.
- Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, resolve problems, provide services, and motivate persons.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending, crouching or walking. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell.
- The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, and machinery with moving parts. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
This position has direct supervision over assigned personnel.

Years Of Service Completed Annual Leave Cap Available
less than 5 years: 152 hours
5 to 9 years: 176 hours
10 to 14 years: 200 hours
15 to 19 years: 224 hours
20 + years: 248 hours
At the end of the year, any unused PTO leave will be placed in your PTO bank (up to 380 total hours). Time will be accrued bi-weekly & shown on each paycheck. After the 380 hours are filled, any unused PTO leave will be lost and cannot be used the following year.
RETIREMENT: General employees are fully vested after 10 years of employment. Employees can become partially vested at five (5) years of service. Partial vesting at five (5) years is 50%, six (6) years 60%, seven (7) years 70%, eight (8) years 80%, and nine (9) years 90%. General Employees are eligible for normal retirement upon the earlier of reaching age 55 and the completion of 10 years of credited service or reaching age 50 and the completion of 20 years of credited service. The amount of normal retirement benefit is based on your credited service and average final compensation. See General Employees’ Pension Plan Summary for more details.

The City also offers a suite of Allstate Worksite products available for purchase.
Note: Insurance coverage takes effect on the 1st of the month 60 days after employment.
