Summary:

• Responsible in the routine clinical laboratory diagnosis.
• Responsible in the effective management of laboratory biosafety to the agreed specification and to the agreed performance, and qualitative targets.
• Responsible for coordination with the pathologists, chief medical technologist and other section chief to properly execute the laboratory section’s goals and targets
• Work shall still be defined by the existing Philippine Republic Act No. 5527

Specific Job Responsibilities:
1. Conduct proper sample collection, pre-analysis, analysis and post-analysis.
2. Provide immediate supervision at the medical laboratory biosafety practice-wise
a. Make sure that the standard laboratory practice for a biosafe laboratory is followed
b. Activates spill containment procedure in case of spills within the laboratory in the absence of the biosafety officer
c. Do daily physical facility check when on site duty
d. Together with the head of laboratory, participates in managerial review for addressing issues involving the laboratory, specifically the microbiology section
e. Initial point person to resolve biosafety issues
i. Refer or elevate issues to the head of laboratory if deemed severe
3. Performs laboratory procedures to routine laboratory procedures
4. Together with the head of the laboratory and regulatory team, make sure that the laboratory follows the biosafety standards
5. Responsible for availability and orders of reagents and supplies at the section which he/she is on-duty.
a. Makes sure test availability
6. Implement recommended equipment and physical facility maintenance at the assigned laboratory section section.
7. Keep important laboratory related records of the assigned laboratory section:
a. Makes sure that the proper retention and disposal of records are followed as per DOH A.O. 2022 – 007
b. Safekeep each reagent and chemical material and safety data sheet, and makes sure that the documents are readily available
c. Keep regulatory documents (EQAS Documents, NEQAS documents) and make it readily available for checking by internal auditors or the regulatory bureau.
d. Copies of incident report
8. Aligns with the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) set by immediate supervisor
9. Review standard operating procedure and algorithms for laboratory procedures.
a. Provide initial revisions and or updates with the Work Instructions and Standard of Procedures to be reviewed and approved by the head of the laboratory.
10. Participates in laboratory and inventory audits
a. Makes sure that the reagent and consumable utilization as well as wastage are accounted
11. Monitor quality control measures daily.
i. Provide initial check of the quality control
12. Prepare monthly report and submit it to the chief medical technologist and laboratory supervisor.
a. Report of performance of test of the assigned lab section.
b. Report the wastage census of the laboratory every monthly
c. Report test send-out census every monthly
13. Participate in selection, evaluation, and procurement of new laboratory instruments and supplies for the microbiology section.
a. Make sure that validation studies will be done properly
