The Engineering Institute of Technology (EIT) is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic System Administrator to join our IT department. This is a great opportunity to work with an international education organization on a trajectory of growth.
Overview
The role consists of the installing, configuring and maintaining the servers within the Engineering Institute of Technology. You will be an energetic and enthusiastic individual, working directly with a great technical team based in Perth and the Philippines, but will be required to interface with people globally. IRIS product offerings are constantly evolving; therefore, it is important to be aware of current development trends globally to ensure that the implementations are well revised.
Duties
- Install and maintain all server hardware and software systems and administer all server performance and ensure availability for same.
- To identify and analyze the issues that hinder the performance of the system.
- To do all the supporting tasks that are included, but not limited to code deployment, managing source control systems, virtual servers, scripting, etc.
- To take into account and identify the discrepancies in the system, to assess the risks, and to implement solutions by adhering to the security standards
- Integrate all required software and resolve all issues across various technologies and design require enterprise servers and provide back up support.
- To be involved in writing and modifying scripts for application deployments as well as system monitoring
- To be involved in developing and overseeing the backup, replication, clustering and fail over strategies
- Participate in various cross training activities, so as to achieve a comfort level that supports the database.
- Monitor the important services and servers, troubleshoot the server related issues and make sure that proper backup is provided for the network equipment configurations.
- Maintain proper documentation of all the procedures, configurations, programs, etc.
- Administer all performance for various resources and ensure optimization for same and provide support to all applications and ensure optimal level of customer services.
- Conduct security audits on a routine basis as well as plan and expand the current offerings related to services.
- Previous working experience as a Linux Administrator for (5) year(s)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or similar relevant degree
- IN depth knowledge of Linux: Red Hat, Cent OS, Debian, etc.
- Hands on experience with My SQL and/or Maria DB
- Familiarity with VMWare and SAN management and concepts
- Expert in Shell, Perl, and/or Python scripting
- Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP and SNMP
- Additional Linux certifications (RHCT, RHCE and LPIC) will be considered an advantage
- Strong problem solving and communication skills
- Strong knowledge of cloud services
- Detail-oriented and organized
- Eager and willing to learn new technologies
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced, result-driven environment
- Proactive and self-motivated; ability to take initiative
- Ability to act independently, great work ethic
- Strong written and verbal communication
Familiarity with the following:
- Electron
- Bash shell scripting
- Apache webserver administration
- My SQL Server Administration
- PHP
- Linux environments
- Functional testing
- AWS cloud administration
- Knowledge and interest in computer systems and the latest technologies
- The ability to learn new technologies quickly
- An analytical mind
- Ability to document in detail
- An understanding of Learning Management Systems (Moodle) and CRM’s (Sugar CRM)
- The ability to communicate complex procedures to stakeholders
- Commercial and business awareness
- Good communication skills – both written and verbal
- Attention to detail and desire to probe further into data
- Cybersecurity skills
- Ability to learn fast: EIT employs a myriad of different information systems that exhibit numerous integrations.
- Strong communication: Strong grasp of the English language is a must. The ability to also convey technical activities to those who are not as tech-savvy is critical. Supporting less technical staff and students is essential.
- Customer service: The ability to assist students and staff under pressure is essential.
- Timeliness: Response times should be quick to a query or request that comes in.
- Care in development: This consists of ensuring all activities are carefully communicated, documented, and all code is commented appropriately.
- Flexibility with hours: If an incident occurs in an information system outside of normal working hours, they must be able to jump in and assist.
- Team player: The ability to work in a team environment with technical, sales/marketing and administrative staff members.
- Attention to detail: Takes the time to ensure tasks are completed competently.
- Problem-solving skills: Resourcefulness and troubleshooting aptitude
Contract length: 12 months
Pay: From Php750.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
