12 Months of Team Manager experience
Strong understanding of linguistic concepts, grammar, syntax, and language variations.
Detail-oriented with exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Strong computer skills, including proficiency in using annotation tools such as (e.g. Sage Maker Ground Truth) and software.
Ethical and professional approach to handling sensitive data and maintaining confidentiality.

We are looking for Team Manager based onsite in Cape Town who will lead and support a team of Annotation specialists to contribute to the development and enhancement of advanced natural language processing models. As an Team Manager, your number one priority for this role is to support the associates who will directly report to you. In this role you will be responsible for the coaching, development, performance and engagement of your associates. The role expects your people to be your exclusive focus and you will be tasked with supporting your people and removing any barriers that prevent them from delivering high-quality annotated datasets that will be used to train and improve generative AI models.
The ideal Team Manager understands that supporting their people is the most critical role they perform. To achieve this they are open and approachable, engage with their people individually to understand how to most effectively coach and motivate them and invest time in developing their people to become legends! They build a work environment where associates are engaged and feel a positive sense of achievement about their role in delivering world class service.
You will be responsible for using quantitative and qualitative data to identify opportunities to coach your people and celebrate their success. As a single threaded leader for your people, you will take care of all elements of your associates satisfaction and engagement at work, including communication and management of their scheduling, ownership of their payroll and taking action on issues arising in your team SID meetings.
As a leader you will be an expert in articulating the Amazon mission and deeply understand the expectations of the annotations the team is expected to deliver; you will ensure your people understand the important role they play and how their role supports the Amazon virtuous cycle.
About the team
Our team is passionate about human motivation and behavior and uses machine learning, classification algorithms and scalable platform services to have a cross-org impact every day. We evaluate user research, customer experience knowledge, data, and cross-Amazon Moderation expertise to ensure other teams think about customer trust.
Proficiency both spoken and written, with a keen eye for linguistic nuances for English. Additional language proficiency is a bonus.
Prior experience in linguistic annotation, data labeling, or similar roles is a plus.
Familiarity with natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning concepts is advantageous.
