Position Determination:
Position title: Economic empowerment and Waqf Co-ordinator
Organisation: Mercy Mission South Africa
Location: Durban- KZN
Contract: Six month fixed-term contract.
Reporting to: Imam Development Manager
Key Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, assess, and improve ways to achieve the Imam Development Program's objectives regarding the improvement of the Imams' Economic and Social conditions. The coordinator is in charge of helping the Imams develop their economic situation and encourage their social interactions. The duties abroad and developing and putting into practice effective strategic support, boosting the program's reputation both at home and abroad, and extending the variety of the related services provided to the Imams. As a part of the program plan, the coordinator also needs to plan the related activities, develop models, surveys, and needs analyses, examine economic requests and social activities, find service providers, and create financial budgets and impact reports that can show the Imams have self-independent with a dignified life and socially interactive.
Work closely with organizational leadership, donors and other stakeholders to achieve the organization's Waqf goals and support its mission.
Duties and Tasks:
As an Economic Coordinator:
- Conducted surveys, in-person interviews, focus groups, or discussions with Imams to determine the need for economic support.
- Develop and update the economic empowerment model/s for the Imams.
- Publicizing the economic empowerment initiatives/projects and assisting in the selection of qualified imams following the established standards.
- Develop plans to ensure that the Imams' main responsibilities are not affected by their economic work.
- Creating implementation plans for economic projects and making sure they are followed.
- Assist in the creation of business plans and feasibility studies for the ideas that the imams have suggested.
- Execute the required processes for project owners and provide them from the relevant sources in collaboration with the procurement coordinator.
- Monitor the financial aspects of economic initiatives by getting in touch with the financial coordinator and making sure that the projects' budget is adhered to.
- Create and oversee meetings for peer counselling and peer tutoring among the Imams.
- Making regular, recurring field visits to projects and offering direction and counseling.
- Develop the appropriate plans and initiatives to address projects’ risk and work on risk management.
- Creating project interim and final reports and donor reports and presenting them to stakeholders together with supporting images and videos.
- Communicate with the committee of economic regarding important and strategic issues.
- Develop and implement strategies to attract donations and contributions to the Waqf fund.
- Develop Business Plans and feasibility studies for all projects.
- Cultivate relationships with individuals, foundations, corporations, and other potential sources of support in collaboration with Resource Mobilization.
- Organize fundraising campaigns, events, and initiatives to raise awareness and funds for the Waqf in collaboration with the Resource Mobilization Department.
- Work with the Financial Coordinator to oversee the investment of Waqf funds, develop investment policies, and monitor investment performance.
- Collaborate with the Waqf Committee to establish financial plans, and investment strategies that align with the goals of the Waqf.
- Handle administrative tasks related to the Waqf fund by receiving information from Resource Mobilisation of the donations received for records to be maintained and producing financial reports.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines governing Waqf funds, including reporting requirements and investment policies.
- Participate in strategic planning processes to develop long-term strategies for growing the Waqf fund and maximizing its impact on the organization's mission.
- Engage with the organization's Waqf Committee to provide updates, provide regular reports, seek input on strategic decisions, and ensure alignment between
- the Waqf's activities and organizational goals.
- Managing all new and existing Waqf properties, e.g., real estate.
- Any other task related to the Waqf role requested by the Organization
- Oversee daily operations of the assigned work and ensure its overall long-term success.
- Liaise with the resource mobilization team to secure funds for the Imams from local/international institutions, departments, and donors.
- Update the marketing team to cover the news and the progress of the work.
- Participation in internal and external conferences, seminars, get-togethers, and exhibitions pertaining to the position.
- Report to the IDP manager on a regular and annual basis.
- Assist in creating top-notch project ideas to be submitted to private and institutional sources for funding.
- Anticipates the related work's future requirements and development demands.
- Conduct field visits to assist with and coordinate quarterly and annual work reviews, as well as lesson-learned workshops, to make sure that the work is moving forward successfully, producing the desired results, and having the appropriate impact and success stories.
- Perform risk analyses according to the work.
- Sharing success stories from projects with stakeholders.
- Carry out any other duties assigned by the line manager that are related to the job purpose.
- The capacity to empower others on how to perform something is known as empowerment.
- Proven proficiency in the creation of papers, proposals, and economic feasibility studies.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and best practices governing Waqf funds and nonprofit organizations.
- Ability to build relationships, articulate a compelling case for support, and convey
- complex financial information to diverse audiences.
- Effective conversational interaction with others.
- Strong strategic abilities and a record of accomplishment of achieving objectives.
- Strong administrative and management capabilities.
- Has ICDL and MS project, and digital skills.
- A record of accomplishment of program monitoring and evaluation; the use of quantitative and qualitative research data collection to support the creation of the program.
- Proven expertise in the production of reports, proposals, and research.
- Able to deal with the pressures of the job.
- Strong bargaining and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Understanding of the guiding principles and procedures for offering Imam's services. This includes determining the needs of the Imam, providing services that satisfy quality standards, and gauging their satisfaction.
- Knowledge of the business and management principles behind strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource modeling, leadership style, and the coordination of people and resources.
A Diploma or a degree in Business Administration/ economic /finance/ nonprofit management, project management or any other related to the duties, or a combination of education and +3 years of work experience in Project Management. With a record of accomplishment of success in a comparable position with an NGO.
