Overview
Planet Fitness continues its exciting growth trajectory, and this growth unlocks the need to place within the Digital Technology and Transformation Team a SQL and Reports Developer. This role will focus on developing SQL Data Queries, Automation of SQL Queries using SSIS and developing SSRS Reports. It will also grow into a junior Power BI developer.
Seniority and Reporting Structure
This role is a junior to intermediate SQL and Reports developer and will report into the Big Data and BI Manager. It will also report into the Reporting Analyst when developing Power Bi reports and dashboards.

Work Break Down Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for the following job functions:
- SQL Queries and Development (50%)
Develop SQL Queries as architected by the Big Data and BI Manager.
Automate SQL Queries using SSIS and ETL processes.
Maintain data structures, tables, indexing in line with MS SQL Warehouse best practices.
Build data integrations into Planet Fitness’s Data Science partner’s data layers
- Reports Development (25%)
Gather SSR Reporting needs from the Big Data and BI Manager and Reporting Analyst.
Build SSRS reports based on needs gathered.
Convert all traditional SQL Queries that produce Excel outputs into SSRS Reports.
Ensure POPIA compliance when producing SSRS reports.
- Power BI Dashboards (15%)
Develop Power BI Dashboards that of a medium complexity as spec’ed by the Reporting Analyst.
Develop knowledge and experience on the Power BI platform.
Convert Flat file integrations into Meta Data structures and architectures in Power BI.
- Data Science and Project Management (10%)
Plan, scope and execute small to medium projects in line with the Big Data and BI Managers transformation agenda.
Partner cross functionally to deliver successful projects.
Research and develop Data Science best practices.
Research and propose scenario, statistical and best practice forecasting models.
The following minimum experience and exposure is needed for this role:
- Experience working with Extract, Transform and Load tools likes Microsoft’s SSIS.
- Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Warehousing.
- Experience using Structured Query Language.
- Experience developing Microsoft Reporting Services reports.
- Experience working with Power Bi and similar tool.
- Degree or Diploma in Information Technology (Programming focus)
- Grade 12
