The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses Mare Nostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for Euro HPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.

Context And Mission
The Parallel Programming Models (PM) group as part of the Computer Science Department, is one of the biggest groups composed of more than 30 Ph D students, support engineers, postdocs and senior researchers. PM has a strong background on parallel and distributed programming models, domain specific languages (DSLs), compilers and accelerators. The PM group is involved in several National and European projects, as well as projects with industries.
The PM group is looking for scientists from the national and international community who wish to develop his/her career in a stimulating environment, rich in technological resources and campus life. We encourage applications from highly motivated computer scientists with outstanding qualifications. Successful candidates will join the PM research group to carry out their research in cutting-edge areas of parallel and distributed programming models, including the implementation of high-performance codes, heterogeneous systems, compilers, runtimes, accelerators, DSLs, etc.

Key Duties
- Development and improvement of the Omp Ss@FPGA infrastructure.
- Tune the HLS/RTL synthesis of Omp Ss@FPGA for the current FPGA environments (Xilinx Alveo) and additional environments that can be used in related projects (Xilinx Versal).
- Port new applications onto the Omp Ss@FPGA environment, using the newly implemented characteristics.
- Evaluate the performance improvements on the applications ported and also on well-known HPC applications.
- Participate in trainings related to Omp Ss and Omp Ss@FPGA
Requirements

Education
- Master on Computer Sciences or equivalent degree

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Strong programming skills (C/C++, FORTRAN)
- Deep knowledge of High Level Synthesis and Hardware Description Languages for FPGAs
- Deep knowledge on FPGA-based environments, PCIe connectivity, Jtag support

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Extensive knowledge on Computer Architecture and Programming Models
- Knowledge on Omp Ss@FPGA and the Picos hardware scheduler

Competences
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize and work under set deadlines and pressure
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Conditions
- The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department
- We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures
- Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration
- Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement
- Salary: we offer a competitive salary commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate and according to the cost of living in Barcelona
- Starting date: 1/11/2024
