Accounting Apprentice

Job Summary
Northampton college are seeking an apprentice on behalf of an accounting company. They are looking for a candidate with a strong background in math's, great communication skills as well as a genuine passion for accounting. A strong willingness to learn and an excellent work ethic are key to this.

Have you already started on your AAT journey or just finished your A Levels? we would love to hear from you as we have an exciting opportunity for an accountancy apprenticeship.
As an apprentice, you’ll work at a company and get hands-on experience. You’ll gain new skills and work alongside experienced staff.
What you’ll do at work
  • Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of duties and processes, whilst under the instruction of skilled
  • To be able to demonstrate these skills and processes as your training progresses, undertaking tasks and increasing your overall contribution to the team
  • Learning how to complete VAT returns, year end accounts, book-keeping, reconciliations and self-assessment tax returns
  • Becoming a confident user of our software packages – Microsoft, Digita, ONVIO, XERO etc.
Training
An apprenticeship includes regular training with a college or other training organization. At least 20% of your working hours will be spent training or studying.

Requirements Essential qualifications
  • GCSE English (Grade 4) essential
  • GCSE Math's (Grade 6) essential

After this apprenticeship
  • Potential for a full-time position once the apprenticeship is complete and progression within the company
  • This apprenticeship role is initially fixed for three years; however, it has the potential to be made permanent
The overall role of this apprenticeship will be to
Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions efficiently.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends and provide actionable insights.
  • Utilise accounting software such as Xero or Sage for various financial tasks.
  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support overall financial management.
  • Mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support in their roles.
Experience
  • Proven experience in a similar accounting role, preferably within the financial services sector.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, particularly Xero or Sage.
  • Strong understanding of financial accounting principles and practices.
  • Experience in accounts payable processes is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Previous mentoring experience is an advantage but not essential.
