Shine Learning & Training Centre are looking for an outstanding Outreach Mentor: to work with children in Luton and Bedford between the ages of 11-16 who are struggling in mainstream education due to their mental health, behaviour struggles, unidentified learning needs or just require a different set up for education. The Outreach mentor is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive environment by implementing strategies to support students' behavioural development and instructing outreach programs to engage with students. This role requires a strong understanding of adolescent behaviour, excellent communication skills, report writing and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.

Pay: £25,000.00-£27,000.00 per year

The Outreach mentor is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive environment by implementing strategies to support students' behavioural development and instructing outreach programs to engage with students. This role requires a strong understanding of adolescent behaviour, excellent communication skills, report writing and the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders.
The duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- ·Provide one-on-one and group support to students exhibiting challenging and disengaged behaviour.
- Monitor and track progress of students involved in behavioural support programs.
- Build positive relationships with students to serve as a mentor and role model.
- Provide emotional support and guidance to students facing personal challenges.
- Facilitate group sessions or workshops focusing on social and emotional development.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of behavioural incidents, interventions, and outcomes.
- Provide reports as necessary to inform school leadership and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with teachers, counsellors, managers, Teaching assistants and administrators to identify students in need of behavioural support and contribute to individualised intervention plans.
- Conduct assessments and evaluations to measure the effectiveness of behaviour management interventions and make necessary adjustments.
- Lead outreach efforts to engage with students, families, and community organisations to build strong partnerships and support student success.
- Organise and facilitate workshops and events aimed at promoting positive behaviour and enhancing student engagement.
- Serve as a liaison between the school and external agencies, such as mental health services, social services, and law enforcement, to coordinate support services for students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to behaviour management interventions, outreach activities, and student progress.
- Stay current on research and best practices in behaviour management and adolescent development to inform decision-making and program development.
- Support the integration of students with behavioural challenges into mainstream classrooms.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings addressing behavioural concerns and strategies.
- Keep accurate and up-to-date records of behavioural incidents, interventions, and outcomes.
- Provide reports as necessary to inform school leadership and stakeholders.
- To forward any safeguarding concerns within a timely manner to Safeguarding lead within the school including Shine management.
- Stay current with best practices in Behaviour management and student support.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Work collaboratively with all staff and external agencies as needed.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement proactive strategies for preventing behavioural issues.

- Safeguarding is the responsibility of all adults working or volunteering with Shine and that all concerns will be reported in accordance with Shine’s procedures.
- Essential to this is professional curiosity, openness and transparency where the focus remains on the children attending the establishment.
- Attending staff meetings and managing your own professional development through undertaking relevant training and sharing best practice with other staff members.
- Undergoing regular observations and Continual Professional Development.
- Understanding and demonstrating adherence to all Shine’s practices and policies.
- Prepare for and take full part in 1-1 reviews with line manager.
- Promoting the Vision, Purpose and Values of Shine.
- To adhere to Trauma informed practice.
Essential/ Desirable Experience & Skills:
- E- Experience of Learning Support in an educational environment/ proven experience in a similar role.
- E- Strong administration and IT skills.
- D- Experience in delivery of the AQA- Unit Award Scheme.
- D- Professional qualifications
- E- Willingness to continue with training and professional development within the educational sector
- E- Ability to motivate, mentor and inspire students
- E- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- D- Psychology, Counselling, or a related field.
- D- Previous experience working with secondary school students in a Behaviour support role.
- D- Previous experience working with Primary school students in a Behaviour support role
- E- Strong understanding of Behaviour management strategies and positive Behaviour intervention.
- E- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- E- Empathy and patience in dealing with students facing behavioural challenges.
