We currently have a vacancy for a Purchasing Officer with the role purpose being to co-ordinate all aspects of the company’s relationships with a variety of component suppliers and product lines. Working with the Administration and Production departments to ensure the supply chain is efficiently maintained and continually improved to support the business needs. Provide front line relationship with our customers and suppliers on an ongoing basis and achieving the highest level of service to our internal and external customers.
Key Responsibility of this role includes:
1. Establish materials planning and purchasing procedures, including standardised purchasing terms, formal supplier agreements and company systems.
a) Ensure the supply chain is maintained and that product lines are always available.
b) Devise solutions for sourcing key materials from a network of alternative suppliers that can be implemented at very short notice.
c) Keep on top of market conditions to mitigate the impact of ‘discontinued materials’ on our Production schedules and designs.
d) Proactively identify potential business issues and/or supply constraints.
e) Subscribe to receive product/component obsolescence and last-time buy notifications. Liaise with the engineering team to procure last-time buys and explore alternative options.
f) Conduct supplier audits and reviews and maintain supplier records to evaluate and rank their performance.
2. Maintain and enhance a consistent stock control system that continually meets the needs of the business and our customers.
a) Awareness of production schedules to ensure supplies are in-line with current and forthcoming demands.
b) Forecast material requirements and optimise the use of the inventory management system (Win Man).
c) Liaise with sales staff and provide updates on order progression and production schedules ensuring maximum customer service and satisfaction levels are achieved.
d) Ensuring the quality of stockholding data through review of actual stock levels.
e) Support the stock taking process
3. Provide the highest level of component availability and quality within the agreed cost framework.
a) Negotiate pricing and terms with key suppliers and track/evaluate supplier performance and auditing.
b) Drive the evolution of the supplier base towards suppliers with improved lead times, cost and quality (value for money).
c) Develop relationships with suppliers to include selection, contract negotiations, cost saving strategies and supplier quality auditing.
d) Identify and qualify new suppliers for the components and materials needed for the new product. Ensure that these suppliers meet quality, cost, and lead time requirements.
e) Coordinate the procurement of components and materials for prototypes and pilot production runs. Ensure timely delivery and address any supply chain issues that may arise during these initial phases.
4. Measuring and Reporting on Performance
a) Clearly demonstrate cost efficiencies to line management and the Managing Director and keep up to date records.
b) Respond tactically to results and market trends.
c) Interrogate and utilise the inventory management system and other systems to obtain performance data and use intuition to bridge gaps in available data.
d) Working with the Financial Controller to continually develop the company MRP system and the reporting process.
e) Perform a detailed cost analysis to ensure that the overall cost of components and materials aligns with the target pricing for the new product.
The above tasks are the key aspects of the role but, like any other role, it is not possible to specify every single task and requirement of the role and you are required to carry out any reasonable task required of you.
Direct reports :-
Working with staff involved with the sales order processing process and stock control process.
Internal relationships:-
Work as an integral member of cross-functional teams involved in all phases of product procurement for new and existing products and services. Liaising with Production and Engineering functions.
External relationships:-
Interface with third party suppliers and customers.
Required Competence:-
a) Essential
(i) Experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
(ii) IT literate. Proficient with Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
(iii) Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
b) Desirable
(i) A background in electronics procurement and/or manufacturing.
(ii) Experience in supply chain work.
Required Knowledge:-
a) Essential
(i) Educated to GCSE Level standard and/or holds a recognised qualification in Supply Chain Management.
(ii) Familiar with packing and labelling.
b) Desirable
(i) Experience in Supply Chain Management.
(ii) Knowledge of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems.
(iii) Knowledge of working with the Winman MRP software package
Required Skills:-
a) Essential
(i) Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills to be able to engage confidently with key stakeholders at all levels across the organisation.
(ii) Ability to think analytically and creatively towards problem solving.
(iii) Must be an effective communicator
(iv) Highly organised.
b) Desirable
(i) The ability to drive continuous improvements to systems, processes, practices and procedures.
(ii) Experience of planning short, medium and long term projects.
This role will be an on-site role, based at our Norton Canes manufacturing facility and there is currently no consideration for remote working.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: £24,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
