Veterans Support Worker - Full time Bristol

Alabaré are a charity supporting vulnerable, homeless and marginalised people. We help them transform their lives, providing accommodation and helping them gain the skills, confidence and opportunities to live fulfilled lives.
Alabaré are looking for a full time Support Worker for our Veterans service to work across 2 locations in Bristol. This position calls for a flexible, proactive approach to provide support and advice around accommodation, basic life skills, welfare benefits, health and personal issues, allowing Veterans to work towards leading fulfilling and independent lives.
Benefits for a Housing Support Worker choosing to work with Alabaré include:
  • £12.90 per hour rising to £13.07 per hour after probation.
  • £25,155.00 rising to £25,486.50.
  • Contracted to work 37.5 hours per week as part of a flexible rota to include evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Double time on nominated Bank Holidays.
  • On call paid at £100 per week.

In return we are looking for someone who has:
  • Experience of working in the supported housing sector.
  • Experience of managing own professional boundaries and confidentiality.
  • Good working knowledge of the welfare benefits system along with Health & Safety Legislation.
  • Experience of working effectively with petty cash and financial procedures.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and to manage and prioritise workloads.
  • Ability to engage with Veterans who have complex needs and challenging behaviour.
  • Good administration and IT skills.
  • Be a good team player and have good communication skills both oral and written.
  • Car driver essential with access to a road worthy vehicle and business insurance.
What would I be doing as a Veterans Support Worker with Alabare:
  • Provide direct support for Veterans.
  • Work as part of a team for the well-being of service users and volunteers.
  • Collate information as required to enable accurate reporting on performance against internal/external targets and outcomes.
  • Ensure Veterans are fully involved at all levels in the running of the project.
  • Maintain service users records in line with the Housing Management Policy and to provide evidence of support.
  • To carry our referral and eviction processes.
  • Ensure Veterans are in receipt of appropriate benefits and support available.
  • Ensure financial procedures are adhered to.
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Fire statutory legislation.
  • Carry out room and H & S inspections, prepare rooms for a new move in.
  • Work with your Line Manager to refer residents to outside agencies
  • Encourage local fundraising.
