Security Services Group (SSG)
Security Services Group (SSG) is a business unit within the DIO which assists the Mo D and the wider Government Estate in meeting its security requirements. SSG provides specialist security advice, compliance, and assurance to areas of the public sector that require the highest levels of security protection. We are the Government’s expert provider specialising in design, installation, and maintenance of both custom in-house security systems and highly accredited commercial products on the government estate. Working as part of a 230-person team, we provide full life support services to UK Defence and Government sites throughout the UK and overseas.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
You will be offered the provision of a non-liveried company vehicle to work in your region including optional personal use (eligible for taxable benefit).
Where applicable, the following allowances are payable in addition to basic salary: travel time (where travel is external to core hours) and travel and subsistence package when working out of your region and overtime.
Other responsibilities include:
1. Leadership of, Inspiring and Empowering colleagues
- Provide strategic direction to the team in order to deliver DIO outputs.
- Leadership in Action (Li A): Demonstrate a practical understanding of the Civil Service 4 Cs (Committed, Collaborative, Challenge & Curious) and integrated 8 Attributes of Leadership.
- Provide leadership for the function and/or team.
- Responsible for developing and supporting the team, enabling them to deliver departmental goals.
- Create an environment of strong working relationships both within the team and with other teams across DIO and Mo D.
- Accountable for ensuring compliance with mandatory staff related requirements
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with all connected with the logistics process
- Ensure all completed orders are dispatched on time
- Ensure products are shipped appropriately to ensure quality of goods during transportation
- Take control of packaging and provide appropriate, cost effective, high quality solutions
- Take responsibility for accuracy of labelling to ensure correct parts/finished assemblies reach correct customers at the correct time
- Ensure compliance with import/export regulations/customs regulations and legal and health and safety requirements
- Support new business initiatives and projects and contribute to review meetings and change process. Ensure effective logistics implementation takes place relating to the changes
- Planning and managing SSG logistics, stock, transport and related customer service.
- To direct, optimise and coordinate the supply cycle to meet SSG demand.
- Liaising and negotiating with suppliers, manufacturers and SSG Teams to ensure SSG logistics are correctly configured.
- To develop and maintain logistic efficiency throughout SSG.
- Assist in developing budgets and cost profiles to support SSG business.
- Review and maintain the appropriate materiel inventory to meet SSG’s operational output.
- Retaining a clear overview of stock, clothing, tools/testing equipment, consumables and transport related logistics to meet SSG’s operational output.
- Strong Logistics background, ideally within a 1* environment
- Contract management experience or awareness
- Environmental management within the MOD estate
Person specification
- A recognized qualification in fleet management within the civilian or MOD environment.
- Experience of above secret user communities within Defence.
- Experience of leadership within a logistic delivery function i.e. MT, Clothing, PPE, Workplace H&S.
- Experience or awareness of Project Management.
- Knowledge or experience of how Defence operates.
- Prior experience of working in logistics/supply chain/transportation function within the Mo D environment with a comprehensive knowledge of logistics and supply chain processes and procedures.
Qualifications
A recognized qualification in Health & Safety including Risk assessor within the civilian or MOD environment.
A recognized qualification in environmental management and law within a civilian or MOD environment.
A recognized qualification in Manual Handling.
A recognized experience and/or qualification in Leadership and Management.
