Job summary
HMS Caledonia is looking for a proactive, self-motivated Senior Storekeeper who can work independently, as well as part of a team, while communicating effectively to carry out essential logistical and mail duties.
The Senior Storekeeper is responsible for the daily running of the Navy logistic Stores iaw the Defence Logistics Framework (DLF) including ordering, receipt and issue of stores/commodities, general housekeeping of stores and related areas and forklift duties. Ensuring that all registers/documentation are maintained together with AINU management. Responsible for the backloading and disposal of equipment and items on charge. The role is also the main focal point for all incoming and outgoing mail and courier services iaw JSP 367.
HMS Caledonia is an operational site within NC’s Directorate of Strategy and Policy (DSP). Moving to Director Force Generation by Apr 2025. It is a Naval Support Shore Establishment, and its role is to supply and deliver MOD and the Royal Navy with services which the Armed Forces and other Lodger Units require to live, work, train and deploy on operations. HMS Caledonia supports an established Naval presence in Babcock Rosyth, Scottish shipbuilding on Forth and Clyde estuaries and a diverse and enduring range of site tenants and wider initiatives of the establishment. The future of HMS Caledonia was secured in Apr 2023, with a significant uplift in Defence activity Stradling Rosyth, Babcock International, Forth Green Free Ports, DM Crombie and USN. Establishment Management Master planning will shape and promote further change.
This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.
Job description
Responsible for running Logistics Naval Stores Section
  • Responsible for independently running Logistics Stores with accountability for all items held.
  • Manage resources by using most efficient and cost-effective stock ordering process demonstrating Value for Money.
  • Collate paperwork for material losses.
  • Maintain records of stock levels.
  • Complete end of year accounts and prepare next financial years account.
  • Order, receipt, and issue of stores/commodities via multiple procurement systems.
  • Forklift duties.
Articles in Use (Ain U) Management
  • Carry out regular musters of articles in use and investigate any discrepancies. Accommodating managerial, annual, and ad hoc stock checks. Maintaining documentation for stores accounting and auditing.
DAS e PC
  • Procurement of Defence Accommodation Stores (DAS) and services via electronic payment card (e PC)
Mail Duties
  • Single Point of Contact for processing incoming and outgoing Establishment Mail Services including courier deliveries.
Other Duties
  • Collaboration with Royal Navy Reserve Forces PO(SC) providing mutual assistance when required and consulted.
  • The post requires a degree of physical ability as you will be expected to manual handle/lift and carry boxes of clothing and equipment around the store (also load/offload vehicles), and place/retrieve items and boxes from shelving that may be above head height. Protective Personal Equipment and Manual handling risk assessment shall be provided.

Essential skills and experience
  • Good communication skills
  • Effective IT skills in Microsoft Office 365 applications such as Outlook, Word & Excel.
  • Capable of coping with heavy manual work in all weather conditions, within safe manual handling limits
  • Forklift licence/experience (refresher training can be provided)
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team and enable others to give of their best
Desirable skills and experience
  • Relevant experience and understanding of stores management and accounting procedures
  • Cat B UK driving licence

The post does not offer relocation expenses.
