Purpose
The content writer (copywriter) supports the Marketing and Communications team and elevates the University Housing and Dining (UHD) brand, accomplishments, programs, services and audiences by creating exceptional written communication as a lead copywriter. The person in this role will produce creative, quality content for various platforms including marketing campaigns, newsletters, social media and websites, while maintaining a consistent voice, style and branding. Through long- and short-form content, strategic communications and other creative writing initiatives, the content writer will play a leading role in telling the story of a multifaceted department.
Responsibilities
  • Develop creative long- and short-form written content, such as print and digital advertising, storytelling articles, student collateral, email campaigns, event handouts and more. Update and create original content for UHD’s website. Collaborate with video team to write video scripts, captions and video-related content. Write captions and content for social media campaigns and posts as needed. Ensure written content aligns seamlessly with the overall marketing strategy, follows brand guidelines and appeals to various target audiences.
  • Serve as the primary writer, content creator and copy editor for UHD. Proactively research, write and edit content that promotes awareness of UHD’s brand, accomplishments, programs, services and audiences. Work collaboratively with the marketing, creative and communications teams as a creative catalyst and brand enforcer to ensure consistency of UHD messaging across all communications platforms.
  • Construct and send regularly scheduled digital newsletters, including content creation, proofreading and working collaboratively with stakeholders to gather information and photos when needed. Produce and distribute messages to residents.
  • Assist UHD communications in reaching strategic communications and marketing goals, including incorporating University-wide campaigns and messaging into department content and strategy. Support leadership communications needs, including drafting speeches, key points, digital announcements, and presentations, as needed.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field.
  • At least two years of technical or professional writing, or in writing for public relations programs.
  • Use of the tools of journalism and public relations.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • More than two years of technical or professional writing experience.
  • Professional work experience in higher education.
  • Experience with AP Style.
  • Creative writing experience.
  • Experience maintaining a consistent brand, voice and style on various platforms.
  • Ability to multitask and produce content under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Salary Range
$52,000+ depending on qualifications
Working Conditions

Work Shift
  • Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 6:00pm, with occasional evening hours.

Employment Eligibility:
