About the Department
The Office of Instructional Programs (OIP) collaborates with colleges and other units for effective academic planning that equips NC State undergraduate and graduate students with an outstanding experiential education. It also enriches the broader NC State community through the support of lifelong education programs. Units within OIP include NC State Continuing and Lifelong Education (NCSCa LE), Digital Education and Learning Technology Applications (DELTA), the Institute for Advanced Analytics and the Peter A. Pappas Real Estate Development Program; the office also provides direct supervision for university wide instructional programs.

OIP provides leadership and support for a wide range of activities, including academic and lifelong learning program planning and development, academic partnership development, and new academic initiatives to serve all learners better and respond to the changing landscape of higher education. The office will foster a culture of innovation and strategic thinking to ensure that OIP’s academic policies, procedures and structures support program innovation that furthers NC State’s goals, values and strategic priorities.

OIP’s strategic plan has four key goals:
  • Provide central support for planning and coordination of academic and non- credit instructional programs;
  • Establish a clear and comprehensive NC State lifelong learning strategy;
  • Develop and implement new academic infrastructure to support interdisciplinary courses, curricula and programs; and
  • Lead the digital transformation of higher education to enhance necessary teaching and learning experiences.

Essential Job Duties
The Office of Instructional Programs provides strategic and operational support to academic units in designing, developing, launching, and evaluating innovative non-degree credential programs. As a key team member, the director will report directly to the Senior Vice Provost for Instructional Programs and work closely with the Vice Provost of Continuing and Lifelong Education and NCSCa LE’s Director of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). This position supports the planning, development, implementation, and oversight of non-degree programs and enhances NC State’s capacity and knowledge base regarding non-degree credential program development.

Key Responsibilities:
Program Development and Implementation Support:
  • Support colleges and units in developing and implementing non-degree credential programs that align with the university’s educational goals and industry demands, collaborating with campus stakeholders to develop and revise related policies supporting credentialing across the university.
  • Coordinate the campus-wide process for new non-degree credentials proposals and reviews, ensuring alignment with university goals and guiding principles, working with NCSCa LE and DELTA to streamline the process and ensure efficient and effective review.
  • Collaborate with NCSCa LE, DELTA, and the Office of Faculty Excellence to facilitate development opportunities related to non-degree credential program delivery and innovation, working together to identify areas of need and develop targeted training and support.

Data Management and Strategy:
  • Partner with NCSCa LE and DELTA to oversee enrollment data management for non-degree credentials, employing strategic insights for program growth and improvement.
  • Partner with campus stakeholders to document and prototype the program development process to build and share institutional knowledge, aiming to streamline and improve program creation and management practices.
  • Collaborate with NCSCa LE and DELTA to administer the digital credentialing system and manage the issuance of digital badges, ensuring the system meets the needs of CPE programs and learners.
Communication and Engagement:
  • Collaborate with NCSCa LE’s Director of CPE and Marketing and Communication team to develop and implement communication strategies to promote non-degree credential programs to a broad audience, enhancing internal and external engagement and ensuring consistent messaging and branding across all communications.
  • Collaborate with NCSCa LE to organize regular interactions with diverse groups within the university and with external partners to foster collaborative relationships, creating and supporting a community of practice in this area.

Collaborate with NCSCa LE and DELTA to collect program assessment data, leveraging feedback for continuous improvement and sharing insights and recommendations to inform program development and enhancement.

Other Responsibilities

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Require post-baccalaureate credentials or a bachelor’s degree plus alternative or equivalent professional training and experience may be substituted for the advanced degree on an exceptional basis.

Other Required Qualifications
  • Experience in program development or management within higher education or a similar setting.
  • An understanding of the administration of digital credentialing systems and the latest trends in non-degree credentials.
  • An understanding of current issues and trends in higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in managing campus-wide processes for new program proposals and reviews.
  • Strong track record in developing and implementing successful communication strategies for educational programs.
  • Demonstrated excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Evidence of working with faculty, academic departments, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to facilitate complex processes and workflows and collaborate with stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to support relationship building and effective collaboration with stakeholders.



Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Learning Sciences, Instructional Design or Communication.
  • Demonstrated expertise in designing educational programs that align with strategic enrollment goals. This includes creating tailored, effective programs for non-degree learners to drive enrollment growth, enhance learner retention and meet the evolving demands of the educational landscape.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in enrollment data management and analysis.
  • Proven ability to lead professional development initiatives for faculty and staff focused on innovative educational practices.
